Since I was so vocal about the pricing of the game and the overal policy towards recent owners of the game, I thought about sharing my impressions after having crossed over to the "dark side".:o
It's true. Contrary to what i wrote in a previous thread, I went ahead and bought the game. I got such a miserable tax refund that I allowed to spend it in any way I saw fit. So I went ahead and bought the game - after all, of the few franshises out there, this is one of the few that deserves our support, if we can.
Also, I must say I was really pleased by the quality of the answers given - on this and other forums- by those connected to the game regarding the pricing and the improvements in the game. That really made me change my mind and get the game.
So, if you ask me if the game is worth $50 I still can't give you a straight answer. BUT I can tell you this: if you buy the game you'll get a "clean", smooth game, where you don't feel like you're fighting the interface and the whole process of giving orders to your units and their corresponding actions seem to flow much better.
From what I've seen so far, and in a purely subjective, not-really substanciated way, it feels that any bugs that might still be left in the code don't affect enjoying the game and it's obivous that the most pesky ones are indeed gone.
I have yet to try the new fetures (MP and the VCR) so I can't really tell how well they work, but I read some good coments on MP games.
Bottom line: I'm glad I changed my mind and got the game, because even though one can say that "it's Harpoon as it was supposed to be when it first came out", well, from someone that was bought H2 MME and had lots of fun but was left scrached by the rough edges it had and then bough H3 and had even more fun but still got some abrasion marks from that edition's rough edges, it sounds like a positive thing to say.
A final note: one thing that is really missing from the game and should be included as soon as possible is a set of drawing tools, just like those available in Dangerous Waters. Life would be much easier for us silicon admirals if we could draw some range circles.
Cheers!
