View Full Version : H3 Multiplayer Server up
Under the guise of Stratsims (http://www.stratsims.com) I'm able to leave a dedicated server up and running for a while.
IP: 72.21.228.42
Port: 14342 - ODB aka Original Database
Port: 14343 - PDB aka Players Database
Port: 14344 - DB2k aka DB2000 6.5.31 downloaded 7/5/2006
Port: 14345 - ANW DB 1.4 as shipped with H3 3.7.0.0
The server has been stable since I turned MPLogging off in the harpoon3.ini file. Occasionally the clients come unsynched and the clients crash but the server piece itself has been pretty stable.
http://harpgamer.com/chat/chatters.php (http://www.harpgamer.com/chat/phpMyChat.php3) Click image to visit chat.
The above image indicates whether there are any people at HarpGamer ready and willing to undertake an Multiplayer mission. The games need not take place on the Stratsims server, this can function as a general meeting place to set up MP games, and requires only a fairly recent web browser. Refreshing this page will in most cases indicate the current chat status.
http://harpgamer.com/images/chattersYes.jpg Is what you will see if there are players chatting
http://harpgamer.com/images/chattersNo.jpg Is what you will see when no players are chatting
Either way head over when you want to play!
If the server does appear to crash, chase me down at #harpgamer on the NewNetIRC network or e-mail me at sysop@tgp.net. There is a link to Java IRC client at HarpGamer (http://www.harpgamer.com/HARP_chat.php).
If you want to see scenarios added/removed/swapped out please e-mail me the scenarios in a single zip file to sysop@tgp.net and I'll make the changes.
The connection isn't super fast, T-1 so if you all show up at once there could be issues. I'll leave the server up as long as cooling capacity and my interest holds out or I actually put the server into its planned service.

We just had a fellow drop in and sign onto the server. Unfortunately, he left without telling anyone that he was there and we only saw him on the way out.
So, folks, if you want to find someone to play, try dropping a message on this thread or else visit the Java IRC client at HarpGamer (http://www.harpgamer.com/HARP_chat.php) and letting someone know that you are interested in playing a game. We can't see who is in the lobby unless we are in there at the same time. :D

Just letting everyone know that a couple of us are getting together on the HarpGamer server about 2130h - 2200h [GMT] Saturday, July 15, to get a game. Anyone interested in joining us is most welcome.
The server is also up all day, so you can make use of it as your convenience. No need to wait for us! :D

Choowee and I just ran through the Chaperones scenario. Took us three hours, but we had a great time throughout.
Thanks for the use of the server. Even with my pathetic dial-up connection, we didn't suffer a single crash. :smoke:

We had our first 4-player game this afternoon between CV32, Choowee, Pirimeister, and myself.
All was going well until the intervention of the Wife / Wives.
Maybe another requirement for MP play is that you need to be a bachelor? :D
Anyway, everything was nice and stable while it lasted. Hopefully, we will get to try it again in the near future. Many thanks for the use of the server.

Wow! What a great day!
Nearly the entire community seemed to show up on HarpGamer IRC. :D
I got a bunch of games in. A really close game with Choowee over Power Sweep. Thanks for the scenario, Dave Steinmeyer!
And fought like a demon with Evaamo on End Run. It was a titanic battle. (I'm not kidding.)
Thanks again to HarpGamer for the use of their server! :smoke:
hey all
I would like to thanks harpgamer for kindly hosting this server!!
played a nice match with Herman...and the game was really stable once we got it to run. It's been really fun to play multiplayer so far.
We had a great time... hope you all jump in and start playing online too.

Had a fun little 3-sided game with Tony and Choowee. Very cat-and-mouse-like. BB Iowa vs. Ticonderoga vs. Burke. The raw power of the BB showed through and Tony was victorious, tonight. Just wait until tomorrow.... :devious:
Thanks for the server and the game, Tony and Choowee. See you tomorrow night, maybe.
Okay folks, this will almost certainly be the last weekend of the Stratsims server being available for your use. My old server is getting quite cranky so I need to put the new one into daily service instead of using it to host H3 games  .
So play often this weekend. We will still offer the chat services at HarpGamer and once I'm transitioned to the new server we may host a H3 ANW server on the old hardware.
It's been fun!

XXup and I are planning to be on the server 3.5 hours from this point. That's 1600h MST. Do join us if you have a chance to help us send this server into the Harpoon sunset.
You can meet up with us either on the HarpGamer pHp chat room (http://www.harpgamer.com/chat/phpMyChat.php3) or the HG mIRC chat room (http://www.harpgamer.com/HARP_chat.php).

Holy Cow! We just played an 8-hour game between XXup, Evaamo, and myself. What an epic adventure. Only one minor crash throughout. :)
It was a fabulous three-way affair involving Kilos, Russians, Japanese and the PRC. In the end, the Kilos got through after XXup and Evaamo ganged up and annihilated my Japanese defenders. It was truly a colossal battle the could only have been played with HarpGamer providing the server. :smoke:
Our hats off to you, Tony. You're a prince to let us have so much fun with it.
wow where to start...
first of all: Thank you Tony for hosting the server. You have provided, again, lots of fun!!
We had an 8 hour multiplayer session. Yes, you read right: EIGHT STRAIGHT HOURS.
We played a great 4-sided scenario using the DB2000. It was 3 of us at it, leaving the US forces to the AI.
It was great to play in a sort of "cooperative multiplayer" way, as I had chosen the Russians and the Chinese were my allies. It changes the whole multiplayer environment, really.
Next time let's hope we don't have to leave a side to the AI as it unbalances the scenario, but then again that means we need more human players willing to play online ;)
The other great aspect of tonight's session was that we only experienced one crash, it was great fun and the game did great regarding speed.
Noticeable things:
- We were unable to hold private chats using the game's chat system. The only way we were able to communicate was using the "ALL" setting. We then had use to use irc to coordinate our actions.
Anyway, long story short: we had a blast!! Thanks again to my gaming partners tonight: Herman and XXUP.
And thanks again to Tony for providing us with the server. It was great!!

After a mandatory 8-hour crew rest, we are going back into the gladiator pit known as ANW. :D
As this is the last weekend that the HarpGamer server will be available to us, we hope that there will be a few other willing participants before we bid adieu to the this fine opportunity.

Well, Evaamo and I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to squeeze every last second of enjoyment we could out of the HarpGamer server. We played the PlayersDB (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=119) scenario, "Incoming Mail (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=971)" by Dave Steinmeyer. It was an opposed convoy transit and it played out very similarly to the account detailed by Tom Clancy in Red Storm Rising.
First came the Subs,

Well, Evaamo and I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to squeeze every last second of enjoyment we could out of the HarpGamer server.
I think I open a special clinic for ANW-addicts. Soon the first addict will check-in.......
Making money with that would be rather lucrative. Only one minor problem........How to get some sleep, when all these ANW-addicts are screaming VAMPIRE, VAMPIRE, VAMPIRE, after I shut down power.

Met another new fellow on the HarpGamer server for a battle.
Adam / Tomcatek was definitely a pro. He handily cleaned my clock without suffering a single loss! :crosseye:

Welcome back to Mark Admiral! After an initial engagement with our host, Tony, he came back for a second round and promptly knocked the stuffing out of us!
So quickly did he snuff his opposition, that they switched sides and tried it again. Two games in a matter of 40 minutes. Short, Sweet, and Brutal. Ah, the world of Harpoon.... :smoke:
Should have expected the thrashing; especially from a guy who's been playing since 1989! Thanks, again, for the use of the server!

Tony,
I want to thanks you for setting the server up for the use of all the Harpoon enthusiasts. I played my first game last month with you, and this evening I played Dawn Patrol with Player while Herman observed - The Norwegians were victorious in both cases (cue Hall of the Mountain King) and, since Player and I switched sides, we each had one succes and one defeat.
The fact that two of Players patrol boats committed seppuku by firing SSM's at each other just added to the excitement ... and gave Herman another bug to exterminate ( a rather big one - kinda like a B-52 cockroach).
Mullti-player is much more fun than single-player (which of course is also quite fun).....and the best Harpoon gaming experience since the first Harpoon in 1989. Thanks for your generousity in setting this up.
Mahalo,
Mark Admiral (aka Grackle)
PS: Yes, that's really my last name...no joke
Glad I could assist in your enjoyment of the game. Looks like you are quite the opponent now ;)

Stalin and I picked up our game where we left off. After a hellacious aerial battle over Fairford, aerial superiority was finally won, but at great cost.
Unfortunately, a bug appeared and kept ending the game. It would not allow us to continue the scenario.
Nonetheless, we had a great time up to that point with many nail-biting encounters. :smoke:
Thanks for the game, Stalin, and thanks to the host, HarpGamer!

Thanks to Tony and HarpGamer for restoring the ANW 3.7.0 to their server. Accuracy13 and I took full advantage of it and played 6 games of Dawn Patrol back-to-back. :smoke:

We welcomed a new fellow into the world of Harpoon3 Multi-player. Shelback dropped in for a game and we managed to get through Dawn Patrol.
However, I got dropped from the server when we tried a second scenario. So, Shelback ended up blasting a bunch of uncontrolled 'target' drones.

Thanks to Eric (Accuracy13), Choowee, Jan Masterson, and Shelback for a fun time. :D
We also welcomed Rhondalynn Brown into the fold with her first Harpoon MP experience. Hopefully, she will be back often and soon. Our very own Amanda Cunningham. :smoke:

Although BK said that he was a 'noob', he acquitted himself like a real pro! Watch out, everyone. Here is another one of those 'Wolves in sheeps' clothing'. ;)

The Leningrad Naval Academy commenced its fall semester, tonight. :D
The first class set in the Sea of Okhotsk. Things got off to an auspicious start (at least for me). Detected a submarine lurking across my Path of Intended Movement [PiM] and prosecuted her with Extreme Prejudice. It could have been a long search, but I got lucky and dropped a sonobuoy right atop her. Like the saying goes, "I'd rather be lucky than good." :smoke:
Three Mk50 Barracuda torpedoes later, no more sub. ;)
Blond Knight launched a strike from Vladivostok who dumped their missiles in the face of heavy fighter opposition before fleeing back to base with Tomcats in pursuit. :surprise:
This looks to be a great scenario!
