Thats not USA vs THEM but: "us vs. them"

So what would make a good "us vs them" future event?

Older vs Younger players
Axis side vs Allied side
East vs West (pick dividing line)
North vs South (pick the line)
Europe vs everyone else
"Brit Empire" vs everyone else
USA vs everyone else
N. American vs non-N. American
etc. etc...

What say you?

Interesting concept. First I think we'll have to do a statistical analysis to determine how many differnt types of viable Uses and Thems we can come up with. :horse: :ar15: :rifle:

Not enough of us old guys around!

How about a 'Side by Side' pairing? What I mean is, set up a single elimination tournament, then pair those ranked next to each other (1v2, 3v4,.....55v56, etc). Keep pairing those remaining in the same fashion. Let's see how far up a particular player might rise or if some of the top dogs fall in later rounds to us near the bottom if we climb high enough.:devious:

Should be plenty of close matches for everyone in most rounds.

Everything of course will depend on "the numbers."
I'd suggest if you have a pet idea research it for us. :)

Age for example will have to be determined by a raw poll, then divided in 1/2.
Countries via the players Ladder "flag."
Etc. & on down the line.

If you look at the 93 players showing on the current ladder the USA versus everone else is probably about even in numbers, though obviously not in quality :cheeky:

Hey did I mention I'm a kool 58 yrs old?
Been wargaming for over 30 years with boards/ figures/ computers, all that experience is why I've topped 3 separate CM ladders..
Candy from babies ;)
Hey I'm toying with the idea of forming a POS Clan so we can go around beating up on other clans..

HEY who put the line "I've been flamed x 100" under my avatar, I never wrote it!
Can't say I like having my posts messed around like that..
Anyway only 100 losses out of 400 ladder games is still kool considering I only challenge people who've got a record of winning more than they lose.
(Although I never refuse the odd challenge from noobs because I enjoy teaching them how to kill)
For example I'm currently playing a cmbb ladder noob and he's just asked me in broken english - "but why your fire and my not (T34)?"
So I shall explain to him in detail why my panzers knocked out his T-34 (hunt/ covered arc/ unbuttoned/ key firing position/ anticipation/ wolfpack SWAT tactics etc)

Kerry, what did you have in mind for the game selection and battle type/size?

UUUggghh, making me think during my CM break!!!
OK, BB is the game most players have but maybe AK.
They would be ME's under 5000 pts h2h.

Since this an "us vs them" FUTURE event I was still kicking around the idea that there would be a winning SIDE per round based on total points accumulated by all the players. An individual could get a minor defeat but because his side won by most points all the players on that side would get a win. So, even if you were losing your match it's in your best interest to battle hard right until the end.

If each match counted as a ladder games I'm not sure that say (stand by for a check) I'm back, that Lurker/ER/NL/NiG/etc want to see they were "defeated" on the ladder by someone ranked in the bottom 50 (by random matchup of course). That could lead to some huge positional changes.

My other idea was that none of the matches are for the ladder, but the winning side per round would get bonus points (the losers none or smaller amounts) & then the over all winning side would get a big bonus while the losing side a smaller bonus for playing.

Like I said this was a future event all I wanted to get down early was the format of the us vs them. One thing to keep in mind, lets say we want it to be "The World" vs. "Malta." Just because Malta has 30 listed players, that doesn't mean any will play. Once we get a idea or two of what "us vs them" is we'll need to get solid commitments before it's off & running.

Those reported in last year:
Total 93
US 51
Brits 13
Can 7
French 3
New Z 2
Italian 2
German 2
Finnish 2
EU 2
Danes 2

If interest is the same across all the nationalities, US vs World is the easy way to go.
