Thank you Sir!

Now as I am starting to figure out what is the difference between "move" and "advance" .... I need maybe one week or two to really start bothering you guys with many questions :D

now back to play around with the buttons and controls!

Try advancing with *withdraw* command, my fav lately ;)

ER_Chaser

advance with "withdraw" ... er.. how to do that? Anyway ... I suck, man! ... I have repeatedly played the small scenario in the CD called "anchor point" (1941, Soviet counterattack at north) as Soviet against the Axis AI, and repeatedly got beaten to hell .... Would you great generals please help me out?
Situation is that I have all green units (who would just run even to hell in front of a slightest threat) --- and the tanks stink infront of the almighty dug in 50mm AT guns --- only two of them and I had to park all my tanks behind building in order to avoid being raped .... sigh ... and there is not arty, not even a damn mortar (what is wrong with the Russian in 41? ... anyway, that is barbarossa)... so the result is no matter what I tried to pin those two AT guns, I failed (hmm... once a lucky shot put out one of them but it only happened once, never happen again, thus I do not think it is a worthy reliabe way to deal with them..). So here are two questions:
1. What is the good way to use those Green suckers? esp. when you only have those...
2. What is the right way to deal with dug in AT guns?

Thanks a lot, gentlemen!
:hail:

have you tried playing as the axis vs the soviets ? Maybe the AI manages to beat you that way, too, but than at least you know how the AI did it :)

Some tips: if you have them, use mortars to silence the gun or use smoke to block it's view.

to keep green groups under control always have them within command range of a HQ, at best a HQ with a morral bonus.

And don't use your tanks to beat the gun, use infantry, bring them close to the gun (using cover and some supressing fire on the gun, (using maschineguns) ) and than assault the gun with several units at once.

Can't give you any further tips because I don't have that scenario, it's not included in my old CMBB CD.

ER_Chaser
09 Nov 03, 14:28
lol ... same people post! :D
Thanks a lot, Kraut.

Actually I guessed it would be artillery ... however I do not have it. And I tried quite some combos in the idea you mentioned either to flank or finesse ... the green babes always turn their sorry a** to the enemy :D ...

And I did try the Axis side ... basically I do not have to anything and just watch the AI soviet commit suicide in front of me .... The scenario designer explicitly suggested human Soviet against AI German... so that explains. But I just did not figure out a way to get around ... :(

Do extensive "research" at Battlefront's forum, and you get all the answers and more. :)

And don't believe anything Kraut has to say. He is nothing but a CMBB noobie. :p

ER_Chaser,

Remember this one very important tip -- always surrender with your hands raised high in air!

Right now, I'm in a huge fight with Tzar, another fellow noobie just like I am. Izyium Diet Plan is sure a nice way to learn the nuances of CMBB.

Dan

PS. Tzar, I'm going to kill you nice and slowly....

I have been expecting you guys here :D .... (and I must say, sorry, I am late :) ) Thanks all ---- I will surf battlefront tomorrow maybe (because I believe they did nto block that one yet :D --- and that way I can save my precious home time to play and post here ... )

CMBB is surely more exciting than ACOW .... however, for a noobie like me, one problem is rather serious, very often I am too busy to notice everything on the battleground, as a result, I am quite often caught in shock that my T-34 had already been knocked out an unknown number of rounds before :D

I own both CMBO and CMBB, I can tell you, you're better off with CMBB only. CMBB is vastly improved over CMBO. In fact, I don't play CMBO anymore. I play CMBB all the time.

On a more serious, do you think CMAK will be again like what CMBB was to CMBO? If it's really good, then I have no doubt that everybody will want to play CMAK all the time...

What I've read at the Battlefront, the changes will not be so dramatic. Multi-turreted tanks and dust clouds are among the most significant.

150mm. Unfortunately because of your gamey bastiche setup you are able to send horde after horde.

Hey, don't complain, you are a finn, the map looks like Finland, maybe we should play this as if it is a finnish battle ? OK, than I need a 10:1 advantage on the ground, lot's of tanks, total AS and LOTS of guns... a 2000% advantage should do the trick. I'm ready, how about you ? :D

You must have been playing GiO too much...;)

According to *highest* estimates, Soviets had 4:1 advantage with infantry and 5:1 advantage with tanks in 1944 against the Finns. Mind you, FE rifle companies of the Soviet 21st army had only 60 men each....

The problem with our game is that it is damn too long (note to others: I set it up according to Kraut's parameters, hehe), and my men will ran out of ammo before they can annihilate each and every bolshevik. :crosseye:

As Sheik and I've discussed, a scenario with long turns 30+ almost always equals no/low ammo before the end.
Unless there is some starting distance between the opposing sides early & long clashes make the "end game" lacking many a "final rush" due to out of ammo infantry. (and sometimes armor)

Well well, that's all nice, but if you have a Sheik who's shelling green soviet troops with heavy arty and if thees brave heros of the Red Army than need 10 turns to recover (after 10 turns of advancing to make contact) and tanks have to drive crazy distances because a Sheik decided to make his stand in a 'rural' 'heavy forest' 'modest hills' landscape... than 30 turn isn't long enough! :devious:

So, what to do... I'd say the scenario should run as long as possible because both sides will have to spend their ammo and run low soon, and usually the attacker has to spend more ammo to suppress the defender this'll equal things out.

There are some nice Winter War scenarios at the Depot, but they are not recommended for PBEM/TC-IP because of the odds...
