View Full Version : rookie-friendly scenarios, any suggestions??
Here I am again :D
I was wondering if you guys could name a few scenarios that I should start with as a rookie... I played the tutorials and checked out Attack on Zion, and Reinforcing Northern Flank so far. I also looked at some other scenarios but never got far...
A general question to the campaigns:
do the difficulties increase during a campaign, i.e. is the first mission of a campaign the easiest?
thanks for any suggestions, I'll be looking forward to any scenarios you suggest!
Take care,
Arno

Wow, such an eager beaver! :D
The scenario difficulty is dependant upon the designer and the battleset. In general, I have not found that first scenarios are easier / harder than any other scenarios for any of the battlesets available around the net.
A recommendation for scenarios is also kind of dependent on what you like. i.e. for the longest time, I avoided ASW scens because I preferred Surface / Aerial action.
As a newcomer, I can suggest a few that are smaller and possibly easier to play:
Beach Reconnaissance (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=923) - control a single LA-class sub
Lone Wolf (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=698) - one diesel vs. ASW group. Choose either side. One of the most popular, ever.
First Blood (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=700) - Operation Dreamland. Need I say more? ;) 1hr. duration
That's Our Oil (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=706) - Caribbean action. NL vs. Venezuela
Suomenlinna (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=708) - Russia vs. Finland in the opening act of a war. Only a few hours duration
All of these scenarios require the PlayersDB (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1098)
I forgot to ask you, are you playing the new ANW release or the older 3.6.3 version? Not all of these scenarios have been tested for ANW compatibility. I wouldn't expect too many problems, though. They are pretty fundamental works.
You can find all the fully tested ANW scens at: Archive (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=120)
hehe eager mostly because I'm sitting in the university's library and should be studying for tomorrows exam but somehow can't concentrate
I know I'll be sorry for this tomorrow but I just cant motivate myself to work today... :upset: and so every five minutes I trail off to Harpoon ;)
WHY DOES THIS THING HAVE TO WORK ON MY LAPTOP ANYWAY???
anyhoo, thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out when I get home after some serious studying **cough**
I play the mac version of H3, so no problems there...
thanks for the help,
Arno
Possible starters using the DB2000:
Active Engagement: North Korea and South Korea continue their campaign of sharp naval engagements in the waters off Inchon. Who will prevail tonight?
Adriatic Nights: Winter 1994. War in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia has escalated and Bosnian Serb forces have isolated the Croatian town of Split. The fledgling Croat navy is tasked to supply the garrison until the overland supply routes can be reopened.
Another Day in the Med: This is a small convoy scenario taking place in the Mediterranean during the early stages of World War Three. Playable from both the Soviet and Italian sides it is your job to send the convoy to the bottom or push it to port.
Blue and Gold: This scenario models a US SSN exercise in the Pacific. The objective is simple; sink an enemy sub tender and an Ohio SSBN conducting replenishment operations in the Zulu Sea.
Buckshot: It's early 2004 and China has launched a surprise attack on Taiwan. China is about to gain its finest victory but for one thing... two American submarines.
Operation Babylon: On 7 June, 1981 the Israeli Air Force undertook one of the most daring missions in the history of air power when it successfully attacked and destroyed the Osirak Nuclear Reactor in Iraq.
These and lots of other small-scale scenarios are available at the HarpoonHQ, here: http://www.harpoonhq.com/harpoon3/scenarios/
