Im sorry if this has been discussed before, but is there a MP campaign option or is this being planned for other titles?

[edit] Sorry I forgot, is there also a coop MP players v AI?

Campaigns are restricted to human vs. computer play. The battle spawning and recovery logic are a bit tricky, and the campaign game itself doesn't really seem to lend itself to multiplay. Depending upon what we hear from players once the game goes out, we may implement multiplayer campaigns in the future.

Not explicitly, although it can be forced. If all of the players initially assigned to a force drop out of a battle, that force becomes computer controlled on the host computer. So if you started a game with several players on the Japanese side and one dummy player on the Russian side, then the Russian player dropped out; the remaining Japanese players would effectively be playing coop against the Russian computer. If there is enough demand, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to set things up so that one force could be set up as computer controlled from the start.

I would be VERY interested in coop against the AI! I have a gathering once a week and those are the only types of games we play.

Thanks NormKoger for your encouraging replies.....

I agree same here. It is so exciting taking on a competent AI together with your buddies in the heat of Battle (LAN'ing)!!

I certainly hope you add this feature. I used to test a game by Paul Shaffer called "Raider Operations", and it had this feature. In that game, the strategic side was global and ran in real time, creating battles when opposing forces met, including appropriate light and weather conditions, local land masses, and even the arrival of reinforcements mid-battle. Everything in the game, down to each individual ship, not just squadrons, could be run by either the AI or a human, with the ability to switch from one to the other on the fly whenever you wanted, including switching between different humans. So it CAN be done :D. And it was definitely a great feature of that game.

Am curious to know what kind of online play is available to the Distant Guns fans.

Will Distant Guns be like:

Silent Hunter 3: where game developer (UBI) provides online site.

Silent Hunter 2: where one person acts as hosts to other players (ISP#).

Red Orchestra: where third party (Steam) supplies online connection.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere on the devs website that it will be peer-hosting like SH2 and AoS2 were. Pity as that is the flakiest way to game online. I used to tear my hair out in the early days of trying to keep an online AoS2 game going

MP is a must for a Naval game. Nothing beats the unpredictability of a human being. Not to mention the ability to fight alongside your mates or yourfavorite foes.

Any patches or games you guys make in the future, NEED comprehensive MP.

Has anyone tried out the MP options yet?

I absolutley what the to be able to play co-op against the AI. My friend and I play almost all of our games that way, and in fact it is often a deal-breaker for us if a game doesn't allow it.

We did try out the MP on the demo yesterday and with the exception of having to fight against each other it worked like a charm. I hosted the TCP/IP and he joined right in and away we went. No lag, crashes. Just like single player.

Norm, please let us play against the AI. It's the only thing my friend and I are discussing as a possible reason not to purchase.
