View Full Version : The AAR Section

I noted before that I though the completed scenarios in the AAR section should have some kind of notation to that effect so that when I want to sit back and take in an AAR I can pick up one thats been completed. By completed here I mean wrapped up in some manner as opposed to part of an ongoing project. Personally I find it a real hassle to try and follow an ongoing AAR as its getting created. Until messsage boards have better bookmarking features (so that individal users can mark posts so that they are brought back to the last post they read the next time the hist the link) I think this issue will persist.

If the AAR creators feel it looks to icky to put complete or some such in the title what could be done is that a specific message icon could be utilized when its completed. Say the written document icon.

Now to test on this thread that this can in fact be modified after the fact...

...and the verdict is...

Yes. One can go back and change the message icons after the fact. I think it would make for a more usable AAR section if you implemented something like this or at least some system to differentiate between AARs that are complete and those still under construction.

That is an excellent idea and the "written document" icon seems like a good choice.

I also wish the AAR section could be set to show the last 10 (or whatever number) AAR's instead of showing AAR's posted in the last 30 days. I fear many people won't realize that a lot more AAR's are available than show in the default view.

I am thinking about implementing a new system where completed AAR's will get a link in the TOAW AAR article area of the site. This means if you go to AAR Page (http://www.warfarehq.com/after_action_reports/toaw_aar/toaw_aar.shtml) you will have a complete listing of all the FINISHED AAR's. It will then link back to the appropriate spot in the AAR forum.

This would also take care of the work-in-progress problem. However, I do agree that authors should denote their work as finished or unfinished. I will also look into changing the default view for that forum...although I am pretty sure there is no way to have it list a certain number of articles. Rather, it is all date-based.

Thanks for bringing this up again...

Hmmm ... I was able to add the icon to the first message in the thread by editing it. But, that doesn't display the icon on the thread summary page. Can't figure that one out!

Hmm...you seem to be right. How annoying. Maybe SH's system will deal with the problem.

Done!

Actually, it's no bother at all - people can just mention to me about this, and I can edit the thread quite quickly.
