Description:

You are the commander of TF 1-502 IN, attached to 2nd BDE, 101st Air Assault Division. Remnants of Iraq's 5th Mech Division continue to harass supply lines in the An Najaf area. It is your mission to clear out a village, that has been the focal point of attacks. Failure could stall 3ID's charge toward Baghdad, giving Saddam's forces more than commanders would prefer to prepare for the big fight.

Notes:

In some ways, this is really a remake of URGENT FUMBLE. I meant the scenario to focus on air assault operations, but at the time, we didn't have the capability.

This scenario has a host of challenges for players to address. They include:

1. Planning and executing air assault operations: My advice here is airlift your force in platoons to maintain organization. There are two routes and LZs to choose from. The one marked MRR is your primary route. MRR means minimum risk route.

2. Enemy Scripting: The scripting for the enemy AI surrounds realistic urban tactics. The Iraqis studied tactics employed in Grozny and tried, to the best of their abilities, to use them against our forces. OBJ DARMA DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CLEARED. You just need to clear the central part of the village.

There are four different battle plans. So you can play this scenario four times, and not be able to use the same technique everytime. Sometimes you might be able to trick the enemy AI's by using your head, and the tools provided. Other times, you'll just have shoot your way through.

I encourage you to research some of the battles during the war.

3. M270A1 support: One of my most favorite weapon system is the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System. It can deal death at 30km. In the scenario you don't control the MLRS battery. It is a brigade to division asset. Once triggered, the battery will cut loose with a total of 72 227mm rockets to destroy an 2S1 battery. Hopefully, the enemy hasn't moved!

Credit

Alot of credit goes to Kbluck. Many of the vehicles you be playing with were created by him. He also did the work on the database.

Contents:

If you already have Kbluck's latest database, this will add the M270A1 MLRS, along with supporting sound and flash piece. If you don't, you need to get it.

I edited the M1084 MTV. It seems pixels got blended. So I did some trimming and filling.

Bugs:

If you look at the M270 at small size, it will look as though the launcher and vehicle are not lined up. However, if you increase icon size, you will find it lines up perfect. Why it does this is beyond me.

Another bug was with the database itself. At the last moment, I tried to import a renamed database so it would not overwrite Kbluck's original version. However, the game kept crashing. So you might want to back up his database files. It's just a precautionary measure. (I'm certain the reason it crashes has to do with how I'm naming the files.)

As always, if you run into trouble, post at here, IM or email me. I'll probably be adding somekind of help file for players. I'll see how things turn out.

UPDATE

I discovered a number of small bugs when playing the scenario today that I missed during testing. I've uploaded a fixed full version, as well as a patch for those who've already downloaded the scenario.
