Are there any scenarios out there covering the Anzio or Salerno battles on a Tactical level?

Anyone working on any?
:nervous:

I posted this elsewhere but will do so here again:

Operation Market-Garden is an great historical battle and should be one of the best games out there based on the tactical situations.
In the North the Germans are attacking (Arnhem) and defending (Nijmegen). In the South they're attacking (along Hell's Highway) and defending (against the XXX Corps). While the Allies are doing the exact opposite.

Few games allow both sides to be on the offensive (not just limited counter-attacks) and defense throughout an entire scenario.

I've played 4 different board-games based on the battle (at various scales) and have enjoyed each one. In those the Germans were actually a threat and won or could win if played well. I thought the best one was the "monster" game "The Highway to the Reich" by SPI.

The "V for Victory" series PC game Market-Garden has better balance than the TOAW version which is hoplessly lopsided in favor of the Allies.

I hope another designer will pick up the pieces and develop a scenario worthy of that heroic battle.:flag:

I am currently working on a scenario detailing the entire Italian Campaign at the Battalion level. As this will be a lengthy scenario (170+ turns), I have been thinking about also creating a few smaller scenarios from the Campaign, such as Anzio, the Winter Line, the Gothic Line, and perhaps Salerno as well.

Have you played Trey Marshall's 21st Army Group scenario? It cover Market-Garden as well as the Scheldt battles. I found very well done.

Thanks for the note, I will be downloading that scenario soon.

And great news about your efforts on an Italian Campaign, especially the shorter scenarios. I think this theater has been sadly neglected.
I'm rubbing my hands with glee already!

And Martin, quit reading this and get back to work! :D

Thanks

Has anybody had trouble with airborne drops in Trey Marshall's Market Garden scenario? It doesn't seem like you can drop many units even close to their historical drop-zones.

Great news, Martin, I can't wait! Are you playtesting yet? I, too, think that the Italian theater has been neglected, especially Anzio, Salerno, etc. If I had more time, I'd love to take a crack at designing them.

Does anyone know whether any of the Italian Campaign scenarios (current or in development) are based on the old 'Anzio' boardgame from AH?

There were a few scenarios with the game (or later add-ons) that started/finished on intra-campaign dates as opposed to having to play the whole campaign.

Just while I'm on the topic- I'd agree- both Anzio and Salerno seem neat topics for scenarios, though you'd have to deal with the 'beached whale' and/or 'wildcat' effect somehow in the former.

Not playtesting yet. The map is about 95% done, and the OOB is about 2/3 done (paper OOB is about 95% done). As we speak, I'm working out the British/Commenwealth OOB. Next step will be sorting out the deployment.

My scenaio is/will be entirely from scratch.

If I do create a few smaller Italian scenarios (still trying to decide), most likely they'll be: Naples 43 (first few months of the campaign), Anzio 44 (initial landings and break out attempt of the Gustav Line), Operation Diadem (historical break-out from Anzio/Gustav Line).
