View Full Version : 1776 Tourney Update

I'm ready to start, but the following players need to join the Nap/EAW ladder:
Navarone
lmjarl
Glyn
a82ahawk
Al Amos
To do that guys just go to this page:
http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/wfhq-ladder-join.php
And select all the ladders you wish to belong to. Joining a ladder doesn't obligate you to anything, just gives you the ability to register games and participate in tourneys.
Regards,
Rich
I think I already did that when I joined as it says - You are a member of this ladder.

All right, the pairings are up, and we're off and running!
Good luck gents!
Just to be clear, even though the file is called SZO round 1, that is the same file for both round 1 and 2. And we can (and should?) play them as a mirror - both games at once.
Sorry, I can be a bit slow on the uptake.

Sorry, thought the email I sent out was clear.
Yes, that file is for both games, and you can play them either way (at the same time, or one after the other).
I think I already did that when I joined as it says - You are a member of this ladder.
Just wanted to say, excellent Avatar Glyn!! :toast: :salute:

I'm with Glyn...It says "I'm a Member".....soooooo Am I ?

Everyone is a member now... (couldn't of started the tourney otherwise)
OK so I'm slow.
Would somebody please explain to me again, step by step, how to report tournament scores and endings? Mike and I are moving fast.
Thanks.
Sure thing Jim,
In the top right hand corner of the page you should see W.A.R.S(Ladder). Click on the text and it will give you a drop down menu. Click on WARS Control Center (LCC) and it will take you to a new page.
This is the Ladder Control Center. On the left hand side near the top of the screen, you should see Report a Game. You click that and then select the game you are reporting on. Fill out what scenario you played and who your opponent was. After that, the rest is pretty easy.
Ben
Thanks, maybe I'll get the hang of it.
Amos (A) vs Kling (B) over as a draw. Kling's army lost its wagon, objective hex, 1 cannon and 369 men. Amos' army lost 189 men. -92 VPs.
While a good scenario, I think it should have been 12 turns (1 full hour of combat), and the Victory Levels should have been -150, -75, 75, 150. This would allow the results I achieved to be awarded as a Minor Victory which in reality it was. He was pushed off his LOC and partially surrounded, and in a bad way. To survive in a 24 turn battle he would have had to flee the field.
The American battle line was solid, and the light infantry unit was intact holding the British objective hex. *sigh*
Mike got a minor playing both sides/ As usual, I deployed badly and couldn't cope with a good agreessive player.
Well with 10 turns, no time to play around. We moved up, deployed and got right to it. Not a subtle scenario, but a good fight nonetheless.
We are playing simultanious mirror matches for my games. Unfortunately we are only on turn 3 right now. Been some communication problems. I am not sure if my turns are getting over to him ok or not.
I will work the communication issues on my end. Hopefully we aren't holding anyone else up.
Ben
One round done. Another will start shortly. I just need clarification for the scoring. A draw. One gets a 5 and the other a 7. How do we calculate that? For example I played the Colonials and ended up with 14: a draw. Who gets what?
We're on turn 3 of both matches.

My understanding is that both get 5 points.
Mark and I just finished our first game and are starting the second...will probably finish that by the end of the month, if all goes well...

Rich is correct, a draw is a draw, both get 5 points.

OK thanks.
Mark and I just finished our second game...a pair of draws.
9 matches outstanding!
Patrick Mullen and I finished up our games the other day. One was a draw and the other was a Colonial Minor Victory in his favor.
Looking forward to the next round of matches.

I'd suggest you work on your infighting techniques... that's what's next...
(Battle 3 will be more open manuever... trying to get a variety)
Down to 6 matches outstanding now guys...how are they coming?
Almost done. A turn or two and that's it.
I cannot wait to start the next round.

We still have three games out.
that said, the round 2 scenario is ready and waiting for you.
Short form? 24 turns on a cropped Yorktown map, Colonials trying to assault. (not based on the Yorktown scenario though)
Gary I haven't heard from hawk in a couple of days. We're plodding here after communication problems and some computer problems. If our games are holding things up I don't mind your proceeding without us as long as hawk doesn't mind either. We can still finish our games at our leisure that way without everyone else waiting.

Can't find a listing for this scenario on w.a.r.s; omly the palyer for Hilltop are shown.
It will be in there in time for end games to be registered...no one is playing it yet!

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I now realize that saying "waiting" would sound like I was ready to start the next round. Nope, just mean that the scn is on my Hard Drive, for when we're able to start the next set of games.
Still no word from Hawk. How do you want me to proceed Gary?
Gary McClellan
24 Jun 06, 16:27
Sam, I'll try on the CCC board. We still have 2 other games outstanding. If necessary, we'll move on. I'll check with Rich and Leftie about how to score those games if he doesn't reappear.
Thanks Gary. I'm in no rush in case Hawk has real life priorities. Just making sure we aren't slowing you down Looking forward to seeing you all at Tillercon if you can make it, BTW. : )
Should be kicking off the next set of rounds anytime now. Keep your eyes open for new updates.

The next round of matchups is up. Good luck all.
Going to be going on Holiday from the 6th until the 11th .. So won't be able to do anything until I get back. :)

By the way. The files are on my own website, but I also uploaded them to the SZO scenario archive at:
http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1180
The Assualt scenario is definitely interesting. Good job Gary.
I would like to see only British Guards being rated quality A, however.
al
I will second the complement. This scenario definitely looks interesting.
Ben
The Battles at Yorktown rages on. Me thinks Jim is on the ropes early. :D
How is everyone else doing?
Danny and I are about half way through our first scenario...so moving along, but still a ways to go. His assult has begun, and my British are holding fast...for now.
Jim and I completed the game where he was the Americans and I was the British. I sallied forth and chased the rebels from the field. A Major Victory!
How do we post the results for the tournament again?
That sly Cobb-meister tried to trick me into accepting a Minor Defeat in the other one. Fortunately, I was alert while reading the Early Termination Bid.
My Americans concentrated, and rushed the British defenders turning a flank, and crossing the fieldworks in multiple places. Cornwallis appears to be directing his batman to collect his things, and load them on a nearby ship!
I am enjoying the games with Jim. He's a gentleman.
The central part to this site is the WARS system, which can be reached from the link towards the top right-hand corner of the forums. It will take you to this page:
http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/ladder.php (http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/ladder.php)
Then you select the ladder you want to report on, in this case Nap/EAW, which will take you here:
http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/ladder_rating.php?ld=9 (http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/ladder_rating.php?ld=33)
In the center, at the top of the ladder listing, you will see the link to "Submit a game report", select it.
http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/wfhq-ld-step1.php?lk=0.83135175130456&ladnum=17&sub=1 (http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/wfhq-ld-step1.php?lk=0.89698932869079&ladnum=38&sub=1)
On this new page you need to select the proper scenario, in this case "SZO Round 2 - Assault (1776)" - then the number of turns, select your opponent, and make sure to select the box that says "Was this a SZO tournament scenario? setting it to yes, that way it will interface with the tournament page. You can then rate it if you wish, then click the "Go to step 2" button on the bottom left.
On this last page you set your side and the victory level, but also make sure and select the match from the drop down list on item 3, so the system gets properly updated.
And that's it...do one for each game and all the pages will be updated automatically.
Danny and I just regiaind communications, so we're only about 1/3 of the way through the first scenarios...so still a ways to go. :nervous:
Atle and I are almost halfway through.

Waiting on Pat Mullen. I know he has been ill, so I hope he's starting to feel better soon. We've got pretty many turns left.
You should hear from Pat this ypcoming week.
And don't worry, you aren't the only team with a long way to go. :D
Second game with Jim is over American Major victory. Two major wins for me. I like this scenario Gary. ;)
My mistakes were:
1. Not taking inventory of my troop types.
2. Expecting Al to react the way I would.
3. Moving my Yank arty to close.
4. As Yank, spreading my assets accross the board
5. As Brits, not appreciating the melee power of massed Yank units
Ben and I exhanged a few turns, but then I believe he has retired from the forums & SZO.

Mike, if you want, I can put you against John Longstreet who also lost his opponant. Do you think you can play them through fairly quickly?
Al & Jim,
Can one of you guys please submit your end game reports in the WARS system? If they have been already then they are not properly marked as Tournament scenarios...please let me know if you need help with this.
Danny and I just finished our first game, so its now my turn to try and take the town!
Jim,
Thanks for submitting the end game reports. Got a bit busy, and it slipped off my to do list.
al
Da Nada. Only good thing I did the whole tournament.
Gary -
Did not see the post re Longstreet.
I think I amy be too far gone in this one to make up lost time. (Esp at this time of the year.)
Thanks guys, with that Al takes first place...for now. :devious:

I guess you guys need to find me a new opponent unless I hear from Pat, but I doubt it.
I got one breif reply from him a week or so ago, but nothing to the last note I sent about the tourney. I'll leave it to Gary as to what to do relating to this tourney though.
Gary McClellan
23 Sep 06, 09:07
I'm going to be out of town from Oct 1-10 or so, so lets look at trying to set Oct 15 as a "deadline"
Lucas, see if you can get Pat to commit to if he can make that date or no.
By deadline you mean Pat coming back to that battle, or all of us having this rounds games done? :crosseye:
Gary McClellan
23 Sep 06, 09:24
Um, actually, I meant Round Complete. Sorry, I'm not awake yet.
Does that sound viable? (Before I put it in stone)
:)
Sorry, but no possible way Danny and I will be done by the 15th...we're only on turn 2 or 3 of our second game. I'd say early November at best - at least for us!
I don't think anyone has finished a round 3/4 game other than Al & Jim and then Danny and my first game...so I think most people are in this boat. :nervous:
Gary McClellan
23 Sep 06, 09:32
All right, then we'll just have to strike Oct 15 from the list.
What is everyone's sense of a realistic date to close this round?
Lucas Kling
23 Sep 06, 10:14
Well regarding Pat, I am not in communication with him. He has not responded on several emails. I got a replacement in the Squad Battles tourney where he was also my opponent, so I think I need one here also, so that I can get these games going.
Gary McClellan
23 Sep 06, 22:06
Lucas, if you can, please get in touch with John Longstreet then.
Atle and I can't finish by the 15th. It'll be at least 2 more weeks.
Lucas Kling
25 Sep 06, 06:52
Longstreet, are you here? I heard you also needed a new opponent?
Lucas Kling
27 Sep 06, 14:24
Have tried contacting Longstreet here and over email with no luck.
EDIT: Established contact just now. Hopefully we can finish this rather fast.

Ok, Longstreet has withdrawn from the tournament. Since there are no others out there I guess I will have to withdraw myself then...

Thanks for sorting this out while I was driving down the road :)
I need the practice...
Can I have a couple of Pzkpfw MKIVs so I'm more in my element? :D
Quality A Hessian Grenadiers. Closest thing to a PzIV you'll see in this series. They fight more like Tigers though.

Gentlemen,
I will have to withdraw from this tournament. Instead of starting the game again from scratch with Mini-Me as a sub for Mullen, I feel I rather just drop it. My time suddenly became very tight and I rather take care of open games I got.
Thanks for the fun though!
Danny and I are making decent progress in our second game...about half way through with it now...just wanted to give an update.
Danny and I are done now...how are the rest of you guys coming along??
Atle and I have a turn or two left.
