If an air unit is stationed away from the enemy lines (the distance back is greater than the air unit’s combat radius) and the air unit is placed in the interdiction mode, does the air unit still contribute to the theater interdiction level?

Contribute to the level - yes.

Whether or not it's effective is another story. I have a feeling that it will not be able to participate in any of the attacks that reflect that level, however.

Perhaps others will be able to shed more light on this.

Good question!

Agree, doubtful that it will participate in a interdiction attack, but does it still help to degrade the enemy overall supply level? I tend to think that it does. This could be important in scenarios where maintenance of the supply level is critical.

IIRC the air unit will participate in the randomized airbattles at the start of each turn....regardless of unit range...

I believe it will not aggect supply level- the map representations of supply are a guideonly- the calculations do take in to account actual interdiction concentrations I believe- happy to be proved wrong
