Do you think Firaxis will finally go ahead and do an Alpha Centauri 2? Considering the progress that has been made in the Civ series, one can only imagine what a modern version of AC would look like. I want it!
I don`t think one will arrive any time soon. With the announcment of a revisit to Railroad tycoon and the development of Civ City along with an CIV4 expansion pack I think we may be waiting for some time.....:(
Still, you never know.....
I`ve often wondered why a CIV4 expansion doesn`t appear that is a kind of Alpha Centauri 2 "light". I think there is some fan made mods for such.
That would be great indeed!
I haven't played AC that much, but my dad is probably one of the "wise old men" regarding this game :D I gave it to him as a birthday present just as it came out (he was still playing CIV I (!) at the time) and he hasn't played anything else since. (That was 7 years ago...)
Now anytime I talk to him about tactical problems in TOAW III, he starts raving about those Air-mobile tanks he constructed in Alpha Centauri :freak:
We'll be on a short vacation together in september and I'll try converting him to TOAW or TacOps but I'm afraid only Alpha Centauri 2 will do the trick...
Cheers
Arno
PS is there a AC community to speak of??? He might find some opponents there.

AFAIK, EA still owns the rights to the Alpha Centauri name. So anyone who wanted to make another explicit sequel would have to get around that.

No, because EA owns the rights.
Well there was a survey on the Firaxis site maybe a year ago on which of the old Sid Meiersī titles the Gamers wants to see next, AC was on that list as well. Would be interesting to know how that poll ended but if they ever published the results i came too late.
Naming is just a small Obstacle if they canīt obtain the rights for AC2 they can just go for another well known star system. Everybody would quickly get the idea what Firaxis was developing when they announced a game called "Tau Ceti", wouldnīt they? ;)
Still, there is a grief since i have a hard time trying to imagine how an TC (nice, even the abbreviation fits) would look like with the Happy-Go-Lucky looks of the recent Sid Meier games. AC always had a bit of a sinister tone, donīt think iīd like it spoiled by Frederick, the friendly fungus and Archy, the peaceful Alien. He just wants to trade and share his technology for free, really!
I mean Railroads! and the new Pirates! couldnīt spark any lasting interest with me since they were so shallow compared to the precedessors. One game of Railroads! took about an hour and after a few games you have seen it all. As for Pirates! apart from the comic look the easy-peasy approach to gameplay (removing of all sim elements like measuring the sun height, scaling the world down so you can never get lost, no surprising sea-encounters since you always know whats going around you and so on...) prevented me from ever liking it as much as its predecessor.
Civ 4 seems to be an exception of the rule, allthough i really miss the council of Civ 2.
PS.: Hi there, first post outside of the DG forum. :D
