View Full Version : Haunted battlefields?
I guess the first queston to ask is do you believe in ghosts?
If you do,
Do you beleave that some civil war battlefields/sites may be haunted?
At Antietam, on one of the hottest of July days, I entered a "cold spot" in the West Woods, on the path leading southwest from the driving turnoff.
Late one afternoon, at Gettysburg, while emerging from the woods on the western side of the Little Rocky Hill west of the Wheat Field, I passed a man dressed in a dusty Union Officer's uniform, hands clasped behind his back, starring intently toward Rose's Farm south of the Peach Orchard. His beard was unkempt, his sword dragging the ground, his hair straggled. I was driving slow, and observed him slowly pacing and observing. As I neared him, he looked up toward me, startled, and frowned as if I threatened him. After a second, he went back to his routine, with nary another look. I particularly remember how dirty his uniform was, thinking that strange for a re-enactor type.

One thing I forgot to say . . . when I entered the cold spot at Antietam, I happened to be filming with my hand-held video recorder. It's kind of weird watching that tape now, hearing me shiver, then watching me turn the camera around and around as if to see "what's there?" somewhere. But nothing was there.
