(2) Enemy Forces.
(a) Composition/Order of Battle. Current information suggests we are facing an enemy Motorized Rifle Division. Enemy is capable of employing chemical munitions by artillery delivery means and is also capable of employing nuclear munitions. Enemy can gain local air superiority for up to 30 minutes during offensive operations once launched, and has the ability to have a flight of up to six Hind-D’s in a CAS role. This is a division asset, but could possibly be used in our sector if the enemy decides to commit his main effort at us.
(b) Recent Activities. No known activities at this time. BDE S2 will provide info
(c) Strength. We estimate the lead enemy Brigades to be at 100 percent strength in equipment and 95 percent strength in personnel by the time they reach the Brigade sector.
(d) Current Location. The enemy Combined Arms Division (CAD) is estimated to be located north of HEX line AA5-FF5.
(e) Enemy’s most probable course of action. (Needs to be developed)
(f) Enemy’s most dangerous course of action. (Needs to be developed).
(g) Weaknesses. The enemy also has some significant weaknesses. The BTR-60’s are a thin-skinned vehicle vulnerable to all of our anti-armor weapons. The BTR-60 runs a gasoline which can “brew-up” if hit in the fuel tanks, especially by white phosphorus. The soldiers must dismount from the top of the BTR-60, which makes them vulnerable if they cannot dismount in a covered location. The BMP-1’s also have thin armor on its flanks. Only the frontal armor can stop round of up to .50 cal, although severe spalling will occur. All of our anti-armor weapons can destroy the BMP.
b. Friendly Forces.
(1) Higher unit’s mission commander’s intent, and concept of operations. Mission. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Intent. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Concept of the operation. XXXXXXXXXXX.
(2) Right unit’s mission. (Who is on 35th’s right side and what is their mission?)
(3) Unit to the rear mission. FSB, battalion support.
(4) Forward unit’s mission. Canadian recon elements are there to (hopefully) provide info on the Bde’s path towards the objective.
c. Attachments and Detachments. Task organization effective XX0900ZXXX1985.
2. MISSION. On order, 35th PzG Brigade, the Division main effort, attacks in sector to defeat elements of the enemy and seize Objective One (VIC HEXEE7) IOT prevent the enemy from gaining geographic and political advantage. On order, the Brigade will continue attacking towards Foxreut.
3. EXECUTION.
Commander’s Intent: I intend to destroy enemy recon assets forward in sector, the enemy defeated and prevented from continuing operations by a battalion or larger force. The purpose of this mission is to seize Objective One, VIC Parst (HEX EE7), and to position the Brigade for a possible follow-on attack towards Foxreut. I see three key tasks in this mission: First, the recon/counter-recon fight must be executed thoroughly. Second, Objective One must be seized and defended from counter attacks. Lastly, a blocking position must be established at VIC HEX AA7. The desired end state is to have our Battalions in control of their sectors, prepared to defeat follow-on forces, and to assist in the passage of Brigade counterattack forces.
a. Concept of the Operations. This is a two phase operation:
(1) Phase I begins with movement from current positions to AAs just short of the LD/LC and ends upon crossing of the LD. During this phase it is critical that we execute counter-recon thoroughly. We must deny the enemy the ability to analyze our dispositions and actions while gaining the upper hand in information dominance. We will accomplish this during the execution of the BDE tactical march towards the AAs short of the LD/LC.
(2) Phase II begins with the Brigade crossing the LD/LC and movement to AO Quebec (Two big Hexes on either side of PL Quebec) seizing Objective One, establishing a blocking position VIC HEX AA7, and ends with occupying defensive battle positions. The recon elements screens forward of LD/LC in order to provide early warning of advancing or stationary enemy.
(a) Maneuver: Brigade TFs will attack along designated MSRs and seize designated objectives. Fire and movement! TF354 is the main effort and will seize OBJ Giants (Objective One). TF 352 will attack along the eastern corridor to seize OBJ Seahawks in order to prevent enemy penetration of PL Quebec. TF351 will seize OBJ Bears, then seize OBJ Jets in order to protect the western flank of TF354 and prevent penetration of PL Quebec.
(b) Fires: The purpose of the FA fires is to disrupt the enemy forces within sector in order to prevent the concentration of an MRC or larger against TFs. Initial priority of FA fires is to the Recon elements and then shifts to TF354 as the attack progresses. Priority targets may be planned as FPFs. The task force commander must clear all smoke and illumination fires.
(c) Reconnaissance and Surveillance. The purpose of intelligence collection, with the recon platoon assets, is to enable the destruction of the enemy recon assets vic between LD/LC Toronto and PL Quebec, to provide early warning of the enemy attack and to verify the enemy’s main attack in TF354’s sector. Priority of effort of the recon platoon is to identify where the main attack will occur and then provide early warning of the enemy recon units moving into our sector. Priority of effort of the unit OP’s is to identify enemy reconnaissance to enable them to be destroyed vic between LD/LC Toronto and PL Quebec. Recon elements may not move further north than one big HEX beyond PL Quebec after seizing objectives. TFs will establish two OP’s no further than one big HEX past LD/LC which may be withdrawn after the Brigade crosses the LD. OPs will be established no further than two big HEXes past PL Quebec when BPs are established.
(d) Engineering. Engineers support the Brigade fight by ensuring/enhancing mobility for BDE TFs. Engineers will transition to survivability efforts during the establishment of BPs for each TF. The priority of survivability effort is first to crew served fighting positions then to ammo caches. Priority of support is to TF354, TF352, then TF351.
(e) Air Defense. The purpose of counter-air operations is to provide air defense coverage to destroy ground attack helicopters and prevent aerial reconnaissance, intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition (RISTA) of the main effort. Priority of protection is to TF354. All units will maximize passive air defense measures. ADA/WCS is White Tight initially.
