View Full Version : Does it look real?

Look at the screens - every pose is artificial and replicated among the soldiers standing there. Ever try ti fire a SAW from the cheek while standing? In addition, even the shadows are very unimpressive.

Seriously, Hellfish - compare this pre-alpha screens to the ones put out when BF2 was announced - and that is a FUN game, but it had some issues with graphics in the Desert Combat mod, which was the impetus behind BF2.

The poses have long been replicated in the OFP games - like the original and the VBS1 version. There's some randomization built into the dynamic animations, but overall the animations are identical.

As a former SAW gunner myself, yeah, I know it's pretty difficult to fire a SAW standing up like you would a rifle - I can't justify that other than to suggest it might be fixed.

As for the BF2 pre-alpha screenshots, I can't say - I don't know that I've ever seen them. I'm only a casual fan of the BF series (I only have BV, and I only bought that for a mod) but I'll probably get BF2 when it comes out. The graphics are indeed outstanding, I'm just not a big fan of the gameplay (I don't like artificial balance, lack of realism, among other things) and online experiences I've had playing it (rampant team killing to get the best vehicles, etc.).

I'll give BF2 a shot, though, as I may have the patience to find a good server this time, where the cheating and dishonorable gameplay is minimized. Besides, BF2 does look very pretty, and I'm getting tired of Day of Defeat as my pure-fun online gaming entertainment. I'll admit I can be a sucker for graphics sometimes.

just out of curiousity, how DO you fire a SAW??? Do you fire it only from a prone position??? I never fired a gun in my life and just would like to know ;)

Thanks!

The prefered meathod to fire an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon is from the prone position with bipod. It can be fired, in the "assault mode", stock in to the firer's side, firing hand obviously on the pistol grip/trigger housing, forward hand holding the bipod legs together and to the firers left. The least prefered is firing it in the off-hand which is typical of rifleman firing while standing.

Hope that helps,

Pete

Holy Hormones Batman! A thousand bucks for a computer game!! Not going to happen in my lifetime no matter how awesome this looks. I can only hope a fraction of the VBS technology trickles down into Armed Assault.
Though at a price differential of roughly $950, I can deal with some OFP-style animations, if I have to.
Maybe the point is, if they can do such a bang-up job on VBS1, what's to keep BIS from applying some of that learning to AA?

VBS-1 was the old OPF.

VBS-2 shares the same engine as AA, no we're not paying a thousand bucks for a game;)

Oh dear, I got all excited reading through the site and finally I got to the one where they told me about the price... :freak: and I may be a freak, but I'm not rich...
But Armed Assault looks pretty nice, too.

actually you can get VBS1 for just about 100-200 US dollars.
