Money is usually the driving force. Is the expansion out yet?

It's not out yet. Valve has exceptionally high internal standards for game design, thus it usually takes them longer than most to turn out products. I really wish they were a little quicker, but it's hard to argue with the quality of their offerings.

god i hope not. i love the source engine, i think all games should use it. the problem is for me, is that they will another game, with a different story, with different people, but it will play the same freakin' way. i am pretty sure i am in the minority when i say that i am not much of a half-life fan.

It looks like they're going the little bit at a time route, as opposed to a Halflife3 release. Episode 1 will be released June 1. http://ep1.half-life2.com/
At a $19.95 price, it remains to be seen how often new episodes come out and how much gaming is involved in each one.
