What about SPWWII and SPMBT by SPCamo workshop, will these two versions of the Steel Panther series be supported ?

Depending on the interest that is a possibility. Right now we are concentrating on SPWAW because we want to be in a position to set up ladders, tournaments and transition that game to the Combat Campaigns style play.

Do you know if there are any groups out there playing SPMBT in a multiplayer format like our Combat Campaigns? If we don't have the room here I would consider supporting it on the Combat Campaigns Website if there is enough interest by players.

I'm not sure if these two SP versions are compatable with your Combat Campaigns style of play, we'll have to ask Les about that. It was a fairly popular download at The Wargamer though. For anyone who would like further information about these two versions it can be found here:

http://linetap.com/www./drg/SPCamo.htm

Be advised that these are free downloads.

They should be compatible. A lot of it depends more on the tools/utilities available for the game then the games themselves. For example, can you make a large SPMBT map and then cut/crop sections out of it for battles covering only certain sections of the main map. SPWAW has a tool created by Fred Chandla that can do this. There is also a tool called Mapping Mission for Combat Mission that allows for this for that game. Either way, there are other alternatives I am sure.
The only problem I have right now is I am one person running 3 Combat Campaigns by myself. Not much time for anything added on to my workload.

Thanks for considering the idea, I can certainly understand about the workload problem.

I have been following some other campaign/multi-player style games, particularly those using Combat Mission and I have a really good feeling that SPMBT would work within the Combat Campaign format. Obviously an big obstacle would be the lack of cutting, cropping and pasting of maps for certain battle areas but I think there is a way around it. By using large sectors, like hexes in a boardgame, random (then edited) maps can be used for a particular. The hex could be big enough so different maps are created to show the ebb and flow of fighting inside that "sector".

Next question though. Is there a big enough following of SPMBT players out there and would they come here and help us create something along the Combat Campaigns line of a tournament? I would need their insight and experience in the SPMBT system in order to build it.

Well Double D I was just over at the Yahoo Group for SPMBT and there are around 1500 members. If you think that you can get a ladder going I think that you will have enough that will want to compete in the ladder. Just like the ASL ladder you will have to get the word out and wait. For the tech questions maybe the developers will be able to provide the answers.

I have joined and awaiting confirmation/access to the group. I have been working on some ideas this weekend and would like to get them out to the SPMBT community for their feedback. I finally got it working on my XP machine. Well almost, the slow mouse thing I seem unable to beat but will keep trying. As long as I can do scenario design stuff, that should get me past the biggets obstacles.

Let me know how this turns out Double Deuce.

Well, I finally got SPMBT working without any headaches such as the slow mouse thing

Depending on interest here I may begin supporting that version in the SP Section. Most likely I wil start with a small test tournament, similar to the current SPWAW "Hell on Boots, Hooves, Wheels and Tracks" tournament. A poll will follow and you can post your interest there.

Not sure if it is the good thread for this question, but how do you run SPMBT with windows XP ? I hope it is not too complicate.

I only had the slow mouse problem when I did the initial install. This is where you end up having to slide your mouse across your mouse pad 3-4 times just to move the mouse halfway across the screen. Very annoying to say the least.

There are "fixes" for most of the issues you will encounter. But you should also know there are some hardware issues that seem unable to be solved except by replacing video cards. This seems to be rare though.

What I would do is. Do a clean install of the game and be sure to follow the instructions/guidelines very carefully, step by step. I kind of kept trying to do it from memory after reading the help stuff and obviously was doing something wrong cause now it works fine.

Then try to run the game and post any problems encountered here. I will try to pull together all the tips and other help from other websites and maybe we can set up our own little "tech support" thread and see if we can't get more players up and running with it.

You can run both SPMBT and SPWWII in XP, I'm not sure how you do it but if you go to the SPCamo website I believe that that is in the FAQ's, if not email Dale.

Here is some more tips/help for running SPMBT in Windows. I think many have heard bad things or have had negative experiences and just given up (I was one of those :o ). But now that it is up and running I feel more positive toward this game and must say, it is a 1st class quality game.

There have been a number of posts where the windows compatibility of SPWW2 and SPMBT has come into question. Miki or I have already addressed these one at a time, but I think the subject is worth a new "topic" post.

1. When you install the games you generally MUST follow the directions to configure the desktop shortcut. If the game runs without doing this, then you are just plain lucky. The shortcut tells windows how to run it in DOS mode.

Probably, this is all you will need to do.

2. If you are still experiencing problems or need to customize the game further (slow down the mouse, etc) then follow the directions in the game manual or this link: INSTALL GUIDE (http://linetap.com/www/drg/SPCamo-SPinXP.htm) .

3. If you are one of the few where that _still_ does not solve a problem, chances are your system has some serious hardware limitations. Most frequently this has been video cards that do not support legacy DOS Vesa calls. Most of the good ones, do. On the plus side, you can always swap in a better video card, which probably costs about as much as some new games out there. :D

There will always be players who can't get the game running, unfortunately. But the silent majority are able to do so without much fuss. If you are avoiding SPWW2 or SPMBT because you've heard they have problems running on windows...well, don't let someone's bad experience scare you away from these excellent games.

Sincerely,
Doug McBratney

thanks for the information.
I will reinstall the game and follow the instruction on the SP Camo site.
I hope that it will work :)

Thank you. I hope it is not my video card. But I am affraid that it is possible. In fact my video card in incorporated (sp?) with the mother card.

I don't think that it's your video card, I can run SPMBT and SPWWII on my old Voodoo 3 card.

Install the programme, right click on your programme icon, and select 'run with vdmsound'

Has anyone heard when SPMBT 3.0 might be available? I know they keep saying late Spring but I am looking for a more specific date (in case anyone knows :D ).

Just curious.

Hello Double D. Thanks for the Distinguished Action Medal. I was just beginning a playtest at my website for a theatre battle set to Sicily. I am playing with my regular pbem opp.'s
At the moment I am just introducing each alias to the simplfied ideas that we can build on later when we battle other alias as opposed to just me as the Axis.
The Axis do lose this theatre battle so there will be no change from the historical.
