Hey guys,

I am trying to convert a simple ASL scenario (Bloody Harvest) into a Combat Mission one.
The mapping worked out alright, units too, however, playing as defender, the attacquer won't advance, meaning he's just keeps running around on the entry side of the map.
I think this may have something do with assigning the 'objective(s)'. The only parameter i can fill in the parameters section are exit sides for each side; I didn't find the ability to plant victory flags until now (nor do i find it in the manual)and they seem to be planted at random on the map. Anyone knows a solution to this problem?

thanks,

VP.

You can place there VP flags anywhere you want to on the map. How you do this is, open scenario with the editor and load the scenario, go to map editor, click on preview, now you can move the flags and units around as you like. If you can't see the flags make sure they are turned on, hotkeys: shift-f.
In parameters you can also set the number and type of flags. Good luck with it!

Getting the A.I. attacker to actually attack is an art unto itself.

The best way that's been explained to me for that to happen is: string out minor flags near the attackers setup location & "walk" them via the flags into the main battle area. Once they can see the major victory flags they will work their way to them.

Good luck!

thanks. worked out perfectly.

Got it pretty balanced too; (at least for a first timer : ended in a 'tactical victory' for the defending veteran Poles against elite Waffen SS)

You know some site where peope can dump their ASL maps and scenarios?

Do yoiu mean "ASL" game maps or converted ASL to CM game maps etc?

Besides here in the SZO CM dl section you can try the CM Scenario Depot II.

Another q: Is it a fact that you can't buy leaders, squads and SW's seperately? I found out you can adapt platoons by first buying and afterwards partly deleting them, but from the moment you take away the HQ, the rest disappears also.

ps:I checked out the scenario depot. I managed to find a few ASL scens but they didn't sound that familiar. You know of the existence of the 'classics' (Fighting Withdrawal, Gavin Take, Commissar's house, ...) ?

Yes you can’t buy leaders or squads separately. Only in platoons. Or as you say buy a platoon and delete squads to end up with a leader.
Not sure about how many ASL scenarios were converted? I know there are a few around.

Leaders- you can do the same to get company & Batt leaders only by deleting all the units under them.

Mad Russian wrote a nice tip on how to get the AI to attack and posted it to TPG: LINK (http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/tip_results.html?sku=355&keyword=ai%20attack).

Most of the ASL scenarios that I have redone I have also renamed. Once I do the research on them, I find that they often aren't steeped in historical accuracy like I thought they were, when I played them in ASL!

So ,with a new map, because the old ASL maps can be done so much better, IMO, here in CM, new research, and often times a new OOB, what is there left of the orginal ASL scenario but the name? I do give credit for the orginal scenario in my briefings though as the inspiration for the scenario.

If you would like a list of my conversions, which really isn't that many, I can post those here.

Good Hunting.

Just went through my stack of ASL scenarios and I see that there are 22 that I may convert to CM! Working on two new ones right now.

I never ASL, but spent quite a while playing SL as well as the follow on modules, COI and CoD. I looked at converting some of them to CM, but got stuck at the beginning with trying to build the map.

Does ASL have similar maps? I'll probably give it a try again, I'm actually fairly new to CM.

Thanks,
Rick

ROFL!!! ASL uses the SL maps for the most part. They do add maps as they go and yes they are compatible!

I have started making some of the ASL/SL scenarios into CM scenarios. I have three either complete or partially complete right now!

Good Hunting.
