Turn 7 Allies receive the news that Lend Lease from US has been received in the form of tanks, planes, and ships [US Entry Variable -15, -15, and -15]. This comes as a total surprise. No Lend Lease Theatre Option was chosen.

Lend Lease used to be the Allies choice in an earlier version. Has it now been randomized in EA 1.7?

no. made automatic. This was done to avoid the early US problem caused by the allied player not taking them. The justifcation being that the allies never would've turned down aid.

As the only way this can happen is with the Pre-War Axis builds (short of the Germans declaring war on the whole Continent) you may prefer to think of it, not as traditional 'Lend-Lease', but as the Allies forming new units and buying/manufacturing equipment to meet the enemy build up.

As Dan says, the optional version placed too much emphasis on what the Axis Player wanted to happen, as opposed to the Allied Player who was supposed to be benefiting.

The problem with the optional Lend Lease was the Allied player would never take it, causing the United States usually to enter the war in the mid 1940. This was seen as too early and now the US should enter closer to the historical date.

Of course in history Germany declared war on the US but I don't know any Axis player who would do that!

I see the logic of making the Allied Support automatic. Of course the Allies would receive help, and of course it would pacify US political aims.

My issue is this is a change from what was written in the Europe Aflame briefing document and greatly affects strategic planning.

Has anyone considered upgrading the briefing document and making it available?

I realise there is a website somewhere with pages of upgrade notes, but the original briefing note was not well written in the first place. [Apologies if any of the authors read this]

Chuck, if no one else has attempted this I might be willing to give it a try provided an expert [like you] was willing to read my drafts.

We do update the Briefing regularly, but I have to admit that it sometimes lags behind the actual game; also - as regular players know too well - there are often several versions floating around the various depots at the same time. I'll give it a thorough makeover for 1.8

The downloadable rtf version of the briefing is up to date, but the html version isn't.

for the time being download this http://www.ulver.dk/files/briefing.rtf

Ulver needs to get an updated html copy up, or note that the current briefing is out of date and that people should get the rtf version instead.
