I do not want to reopen the recent dustup that occurred here in the Distant Guns forum, but I do want to say a quick word about it.

I take partial responsibility for what happened here. Moderating a forum is damn hard work and all we have to go by is the forum rules and the advice of our fellow mods. I broke our own rules when I elected to publicly respond to certain individuals who posted things I felt were objectionable. I remain convinced that one or two members did not have good intentions when they registered here, nevertheless, I and my staff should have handled the issue in private via PM or email. Although our intentions were good, responding in public was a surefire way to make the situation even worse. Had we talked with these people in private, perhaps some of this could have been avoided.

Some pretty ugly things have been written about SZO and me at various places as a result of all this, but tempers have cooled and some positive things have been written as well. I appreciate the time people took to set the record straight and to correct statements that were made in anger.

The SZO staff will continue to moderate these forums and do our best to ensure they are a place friendly to gamers of all ages. But we will also endeavor to do so behind-the-scenes, and in the least disruptive fashion possible. Games are what bring all of us together here, so let us return to talking about that.

I modded the Wargamer forums for a year and I'd rather have root canal. It's extremely difficult if you take the job seriously.

Don,

I, for one, would like to say that you run the best moderated wargaming forum on the internet!

There is a million miles between the guy who DOES the work and the guy who CRITICIZES the work. As long as humans are still doing the work, it is never going to be perfect. But, with SZO, you have gotten alot closer than anyone else!

keep up the good work.

Hello.
Yes, and hmmmmm.
It is a website like this that makes one ponder!
As it is already I can't imagine anyone pulling me away from a computer ..
stop me from planning future activities that don't include increasing amounts of time spent in front of the computer - including here at this website (even with AC as just a bottom of the page link does not split my time) ...
Just a moment ago I was wondering whether or not to get a laptop; where I would be webwise with the laptop is obvious.
But the idea of lazing about even more than I am now, would mean getting all my cellular physiology converted to a microchip based one. Even future social (female) associations would required her to be Artificially Inteligent.
Not Blonde mind you, just pure silicon and microchip in design and activities
 Now that would be love!!
:)

Anyone who has experienced passion knows that it can be pretty overwhelming. Reading and posting to a location where at a moment's notice a thought can become a sentence. A glance at a sentence can become a reason to Rant. Heck it's almost like being in a relationship that has almost no room; no buffer; where every galnce or stroke can is immediately felt and acted upon.
Where you breathe in each others air. (At least for awhile).
That's life and there is no way to eliminate such things.
Now on the other hand if you were to ask me if once I am fully microchipped would I allow instantaneous communication to be permissable from others to my main processor? Well heck no!
That's the web already. Hot; vile; crude; lascivious; objectionable; fun; futuristic; nouveau; classy; an evnvironment with atmosphere; indispensable; informative.

Life goes on. You can only strike out so much in one game. In the next game things are brand new.
Overcome it and move on. I do every day, even after striking out!!
