View Full Version : A gallery of the "Awrora"

I've come across and interesting gallery of the Russian protected cruiser "Avrora", one of the survivors of the Tsushima battle, and a ship which appeared later in another fateful event in the history of Russia...
I believe the only other ship of that war which survived to our time is the "Mikasa". Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, here it is. The author of the photos is Vladimir Yakubov

The ship is of course moored at St. Petersburg.

Kind of amazing, really. The Russians have nuclear submarines that are half-submerged, rusting hulks. But they managed to preserve this very fine historical vessel. :thumup:

The Russians seem to be better in preserving then the Japanese. As I can see in Google Earth (35deg 17' 06'' N 139deg 40' 27'' E), The "Mikasa" in Yokosuka is not a vessel any more, but a monument, wholly set in concrete.
