Hi there.
I'm new here (well not really but, as far as I recall, this should be my first post) and wish to share some thoughts about what I'd like to see improved/added in the next patches (or the coming WinSPWW2). These are "small" improvements that imho would greatly enhance the gaming experience. Here are my "requests" (respectfully :) ):
-A status bar showing the hex coordinates when the mouse hover over a unit.
-A feature allowing to enter one hex coordinates (X-Y) then calculating the distance to another one.
-The possibility to jump to an on map unit by selecting it in the Roster.
-A status report for off-map units (arty and air assets).
-A toggle to show the view/move zones for a unit.
-A toggle to the pioneer units between removing mines/just standing there.
-The possibility to choose between two stances for a unit: Offensive/Defensive.
-Changing the buildings height to have them actually higher than the ground they stand upon.
-A change in the vehicle breakdown code to make it dependant on the speed/terrain.
-A summary on the unit page showing the Dist/Pen for AT weapons.
-A BIG YES to the "opportunity fire" code mods as proposed by Artur (here and at Shrapnel's forums) :)
On this last one, I'd like to say I really enjoyed the Campaign Series approach of the problem. A discrimination between soft/hard targets relative to the nature of the unit selected (inf/arm/atg). It was simple but effective. Something similar would greatly improve the gameplay and, for those who disagree, why not simply turn the switches off?! Offer a wide range of possibilities to the player and let him decide to use the ones he prefer; that's the best route for a game designer, isn't it? In my opinion, it's far better than to say: "that can't be done!" or "sorry boy, that's not good for you"... :)
