Comrades,
I believe a few essentials have to be ephasized about artillery.
In certain way artillery in WinSPMBT CAN be very effective.
If you examine the information about an artillery unit you can notice, that some have AP ammo and some don't. Those which have AP ammo are very dangerous because that is clustered ammo that can destroy even tanks, not to mention the lighter armored vehicles like BMPs or Bradleys!
We have 2 2S3M Akatsiya battalions, they are our most effective weapons against TI units hiding behind smoke. A well aimed fire mission will make them think more when they park their units for several turns on a hill top behind smoke. We must also be careful with our BMPs and once it is suspected they are spotted, move the hell out of there!
Be aware that NATO has a lot of mortars which are especially good at one thing. They fire adequate smoke cover and fast. In the recent training game (and not only there) I realized how important the "smoke management" is.
HE artillery fire missions seem very ineffective, but once infantry is moving in the open, they pin very easily under artillery fire and will not be able to move for several turns!
I will modify the ammo for the Soviet 150mm batteries in my training scenarios as soon as I can.
Artur.
