LOL This is just a little admin post to Double Deuce to let him know what I'm doing.
1) In the 80's the US ARMY was changing from 5 tank to 4 tank platoons. Essentially all I did was make 2 more platoons so I could strengthen the M113 Mech companies (that should be in the lead to fix the enemy) and create a reasonable 9 tank strike force/reserve. 1+4+4. The M2s stayed pure because I want to exploit their speed and if properly used can take care of themselves. I am still toying with attaching a M2 Plt to the M113 companies.
2) There has always been contraversy in the US recon/Cavalry community as to whether they should be heavily or lightly equiped and whether they should fight.
The scout platoons that we have are correct for the time period. The question remains the same. I personally prefer the British style of Recon with close, medium and long range recon but we are not using Brits. The other problem is that we have no Brigade Recon. That was done by the Divisional Cavalry Squadron(BN) . They were composed of M3s and Helos.
By consolidating the M3s I have created an accurate and extremely usefull Armored Cavalry Troop(Co). They can SCREEN ahead of the Brigade or GUARD a flank.
3) I created Scout platoons very close to the ones that the M3s replaced.
I hope that clears things up. Essentially I need more tanks and a Brigade recon force. The rest was fluff:)
