SKYPE is a VOIP program that allows pc to pc (free) or pc to telephone (small cost) voice communication. It also allows conference calls. I use it to phone Europe from the US for 0.02 Euros/minute. I pay that because I can't convince my family to install it on their computers  .

Artur and I spoke via SKYPE for the first time the other day and we both thought it might be valuable if everyone on the team had the ability to participate in a conference call. The time difference between Artur and myself (east coast of US) is 6 hours. Not unmanagable.

I believe it is much easier to coordinate plans via voice rather than solely with the forum and email.

There are other voip programs available such as Team Speak, but they don't have the telephony capabilities of SKYPE.

Very much agreed. It could help a lot if we did the brainstormings via skype.

I agree. Skype would be very useful, I'm not so sure how good the voice calls would be for this, it would be a bit difficult to understand everything correct as spoken, but Skype can be used to chat using text, and the chat supports several participants at the same time. I'd recommend using it like that.

And it could be used to send the pbem files too, very useful.

Hmm bing in voice communicatiosn sounds interesting.
Hmm do you think it would still work on a 128k internet connection?

Conference chats are a very good idea, IMHO. IIRC also MSN Messenger supports that feature, and I already have that :D

A chat tool like MSN or ICQ would do it as well. The emphasys is not on the voice but on the conference... :)

Sounds like a good idea. It would enhance our ability to plan and analyze.

By all means, it would be fun, but I can't really see how it would be superior to this forum...? :)

The "superiority" of it would be to have instantaneous feedback, instead of posting something and waiting up to a day or longer for the person you are trying to communicate with to realize you posted something for them, and then for them to read it.

It has one drawback, something written in a chat will not reach the whole team so you need to be careful to post anything valuable coming up in a chat to this site also.

I am not thrilled about the idea that I would be reachable any time I sit here, I do more than just play SP with my PC. I know, I know, I can shut it off any time I want but I probably will forget it most of the time. That's just me, stuck to my ideas of personal time.

I can live with that..., always been more of a forum guy... :)

You have a phone right? It's the same principle. Just don't answer.

It may be more useful for clearing up questions more easily and clearly than possible on the forums. For example I could post in the forum that I have some questions for xxx team mate and I could ask for a call to be scheduled at a particular time and date to discuss it. It would just be another communication tool.

We might also start up an irc channel, protected by password. This would also solve any time difference or other problems, as information could easily be copied on the forum.

Note: I'll take the freedom of putting up a channel for the WP discussion on Quakenet server. Channel name is #varsovanliitto (Warsaw Pact in finnish), and the password is fishhead.
