Today, after reading Palantir's email of assignment of the CMBB invitation tourney RD5, I am deeply moved by our man's genuine effort to make this event fun and our club a better place for everybody.
Here is the email I send him just a minute ago, I believe many here would share the same feeling:
Kerry, I did not take a look at the game file yet, but the amazing details really strike me as for how much effort you have put into this project. You work harder to make our community happy than how I work to make my own living. :)
How much I wish I could participate in all the other tournaments Kerry organized! But even without my first-hand experience, from the response and feedback from the tourney threads, I believe Kerry kept his high standard for all of them second to none.
I hope we can use this thread as a petition from our CM community to nominate and recommand Palantir for the SZO Staff of the Year or the Best Section Leader .
If any of you would agree with me and support this petition, please respond to this thread. I truly believe our man deserves it! :)
:salute:

For those who do not participate in CMBB tourney or esp. those who do not play in any CM games or tourneys, I think I should provide this small portion of Palantir's recent email that triggered my thought of creating this thread ---- remember this is only one tiny piece of his work for CM section, not only does he organize all the tourney, every round in this careful and neat fashion, but he designed and tested all the scenarios used in CMBB tourney and many in others ---- this is just an example to show the professional quality of Palantir's work:
Hello Gentlemen,
The battle for the Top Spot continues! We roll into the last round and the competition for the top 2 spots are still up for grabs. (Please read ALL of this, some things are different)
Attached is the Fifth Round, “KM- The Grinder” of the “Top Players Tourney.” You should have loaded it into your 'Saved Games' folder. Then, when you start the game, click on the 'Play Game' button - you should find 'KM-The GrinderA' listed as a save game. Open that and you'll see three options, choose the email option and you're away.
This scenario is one of simple survival, he who does it best wins! I decided to send along the “battle damage” version since it really adds a little something to the scenario. It’s a quick 30 turns for an assault but we want to get this tourney wrapped up before 2007 and everyone gets the same chance to die magnificently!
This is the Allied Setup Phase, (it is a saved game file), password is- ####
After finishing your setup send the turn PBEM to your Axis opponent.
When you receive your Allied opponent’s turn your Axis password will be, ####
BY ER_CHASER: Please note this would imply that Palantir must personally set up all 16 games and carefully mark each password assigned. Of course, I deleted the real password to protect myself against the tricky KG a little bit :)
If you have ANY questions shoot them my way and I will attempt to answer them.
Stay in contact with your opponent; let him know if your turns will be delayed for any reason. Please do not just drop out- use the ceasefire button if needed. Keep an eye on the end-date and if you feel you will not finish playing by PBEM please try TCP’ing to finish up. We have no plans on extending the end date.
The “Ceasefire” rule will be in effect for players that do not finish on time. (Both players hit the “ceasefire” button and the victory points are determined from there.)
Both sides of the scenario will be played simultaneously, so keep the turns rolling along and aim for 2+ turns per game a week (think weekend play!).
This is a Medium map with appropriate sized formations so turn around’s can be handled quickly. Nonetheless I still give you ample time to finish: the End Date for Round 5 is April 30th 2006 that gives you 16+ weeks for a @2 turns a week turn-around time. I expect this round to be done before that date.
*** Notice to everyone***
Please do not drag your feet & delay sending back turns as your game nears its end. Doing so is a sign of poor sportsmanship and is discourteous to everyone else playing. Be considerate and just play on as normal, or ceasefire you can’t win every battle.
The SZO policy of “I can declare a victory after 14 days of no contact” IS in effect. So notify your opponent & me if you will be delayed in returning your turns. We would rather see tourney games played competitively to the end & not have pyrrhic victories.
I HAVE had to and I will again enact a ceasefire if required AND I HAVE and will award Victory Points if it is shown that anyone delayed the game on purpose to lessen the defeat / insure a victory.
Best of luck to everyone, I hope you have fun with the carnage about to come.
I’ve really enjoyed running this tournament your steadfastness throughout the long months of battle have made all the designing worthwhile.
Round 6 is of course the Championship Round of the Top 2 spots but I hope everyone will participate in it as a ladder game or not. (Match-ups can be discussed: 3v4 or 3v15 or random etc) The scenario is set in the “steep” mountains of Hungary- Fall ’45 with the Soviets attempting to take a vital pass, access routes and a valley town before the first snow falls: it is a large map.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
