Confused on CoW Patches!

I have a TOAW CoW patch 1.06 that I downloaded ages ago and now I see a 1.04a patch. I downloaded it but before I unzip what's the deal. When did 1.04a come out and does anyone know why the numbers went backwards? Was 1.06 unofficial?

1.06 was broken. Use 1.04.

Both patches are official. 1.04 is the community standard because 1.06 was released as sort of a patch-up job and not even Norm was clear on what it contained. Certainly it's been established not to contain any noticeable improvements over 1.04. Though to my knowledge 1.04 and 1.06 are compatible for PBEM, people won't appreciate it if you use 1.06.

If you've applied 1.06, you'll have to reinstall in order to apply 1.04.

106 contains a bug in the rewritten anti armor code that gives weapons that would normally have zero chance of penetrating heavy armor a good chance of doing so. While they may be file compatable, they shouldn't be interchanged.
