Scenario 4 (Free Set-up)

I thought I would try my hand at an AAR for POA2 Build 306. The scenario used is
Movement to Contact (Scenario 4 Free Set-up).

1: Task and Ground

The Task.is show in the attached jpg file Task.

Map 1 shows my assigned area of operation. Phase Line Sword is my line of departure. The Forward Line Of Enemy Troops is shown as is my objective, Objective Lion. Air Cav units are operating left and right of my flank boundaries.

Map 2 gives a graphic view of the contours of my area of operations. Area dominated by the high ground, shown in light green.

2: Planning

This will be a four phase operation:

Phase One Move to RV1.
Phase Two Locate main enemy positions.
Phase Three Destroy Enemy units in detail
Phase Four Secure Objection LION

Phase One. The Scout Pl will recce forward to Loc 3055 and 3003. both these location are on a direct axis of advance to Objective Lion. Both locations offer maximum concealment to observe forward. The Task Force will advance in road march column halting at 3390 for SitRep from Scout Pl. The Mortar Pl and Arty Btty will remain in place ready to give fire support. See Map 3. See Map 4 for order of march.

Order of march:

1-Scout Pl
B-Tk Pl
1-Mech
A-Tk Pl
2-Mech
C-Tk Pl
HQ-Mech
3-Mech

Phase Two. The Scout Pl will recce forward to locate the enemy main line and identify positions.

Phase Three. Once the Scout Pl has located the enemy and identified positions the three armoured Pl will advance with two forward and one back to defeat the identified enemy positions. The three Mech Pls will each follow an armoured Pl:

B-Arm – 1-Mech.
A-Arm – 2-Mech.
C-Arm – 3-Mech.

The distance between Armour and trailing mech Pl to be 500m.

Phase Four. Once the Armour destroyed enemy resistance the Mech Pl will dash for LION and secure.

Timing

Phase One To commence 1200hrs.
Phase Two Will commence no later than 1210hrs.
Phase Three Will commence on completion of Phase Two.
Phase Four Will commence on completion of Phase Three. Phase Four must be completed no later than 1240hrs.

Hi Charles,

How are you my friend? We really must get another game going between us sometime. I'm hoping that by posting an AAR it will help to regenerate interest in Point of Attack 2. Build 306 still has some wrinkles to iron out but the game is now very playable.

SITREPS


1200hrs TF moves out.

1203hrs Firing heard over on the left flank.

1206hrs Heavy firing heard off on both flanks. Enemy tanks reported at 1981
and enemy BMPs 1881.

1209hrs Both scout teams are in position. Report enemy activity north and north
west. Phase Two can now start. I have ordered 1-1 Scout Pl to send a
vehicle forward to the woods 1km north of their current position. The
main body of the task force is still arriving at RV 1. 1-B Armour reports
an M1A2 with a temporary mobility breakdown. 1-C Armour reports that
it to has lost an M1A2 to temporary mobility breakdown. Damn I’m two
tanks down already and not a round fired.

1210hrs Looks like the Scout M3A2 has found a covered approach to the woods. I’ve ordered B-Arm and 1-Mech to 3225 from where they are to move up to join the scout M3A2. All scout elements are to use the same route and move now to join the scout M3A2 in the woods. 2-Mortar Pl to drop smoke at 2886 to cove move of 1-Scout Pl.

1211hrs 1-Scout Pl took fire from enemy automatic cannon. No reported casualties 1-1 Scout engaged enemy unit with chaingun.

1212hrs 1-Scout taking fire from MBT main gun. No reported casualties. A-Arm order to take up positions behind smoke laid to screen move of 1-Scout Pl with 2-Mech 500m behind. C-Arm and 3-Mech ordered to move to B-Arm location.

1215hrs Phase three commences with B-Arm and 1-Mech moving forward to the woods. C-Arm and 3-Mech move to occupy B-Arm and 1-Mechs old positions. A Arm in over watch behind smoke screen and 2-Mech deployed 500m behind A-Arm.

1217hrs 1-Scout and A-Arm engaging enemy positions with 25mm chain guns and MBT 120mm main guns.

1218hrs 1-Scout Pl reports first battle casualty. They had lost a vehicle and its team. B-Arm ordered to line north edge of wood. C-Arm and 3-Mech ordered forward to woods. 2-Mech ordered to join A-Arm on line. 1-B-Arm reports another M1A2Sep lost to mechanical breakdown and 3-B-Mech reports mechanical failure of one of their M1A2Seps. 2-Mortar fire mission called (Smoke) onto 2216.

1220hrs 1-Scout Pl ordered forward to recce LION (Beuvron-en-Auge).A-Arm ordered North to the line of the D117 with 2-Mech in over watch.

1220hrs 1-Mech ordered forward to join B-Arm on the North edge of the woods.

1221hrs Phase 4 commences with 1-Scout Pl reporting LION clear of enemy units. B-Arm and 1-Mech ordered to move to LION. C-Arm and 3-Mech ordered to the railway station (La Gare) at 1714. 1-Scout Pl ordered to move to 1096.

1227hr B-Arm and 1-Mech have secured. 1-Mech, 2-Mech and 3 Mech are ordered to deploy to defend LION. B-Mech is to move to 1096 and screen LION from the North. A-Arm and C-Arm will turn West and mop up any remain enemy in sector.

1232hrs Fire mission (HEAT) called from Arty Btty onto 1918. Suspected enemy positions.

1235hrs All units report in position. A-Arm and C Arm give the ok to advance West and continue with mopping up ops.

1236hrs 3-C-Arm has had two tanks knocked out by enemy action.

1238hrs A-Arm and C-Arm mopping up ops now underway.

1239hrs Operations end.

Summary

All enemy units in area destroyed and LION secured. Friendly casualties were extremely light. 3 M3A2 scout vehicles and teams KIA, 2 M1A2SEP KIA and 4 M1A2SEP suffering mechanical failures. Task Force remains an effective fighting force.
