I usually play the AI with all the settings at the default. I'm interested to hear what other settings you guys use, and why? Also, do you use different settings for PBEM versus playing against the AI?

I usually play the same AI and PBeM and that is everything set to ON except "Fast Artillery".
I even play with the ID Flags on. If you use the small flag mod they don't interfere with seeing units too much.

I have that stuff set up exactly the same as you do (I like the flags mod too).
I meant the "realism settings" or whatever they are on the right side of the preferences screen - "searching" "toughness" etc...

I leave them all at the "default" (100% or XXX).
I adjust the settings quite a bit depending on what mood I'm in, when playing against AI. If troop training is "on" its nice, but sometimes I want to use US equipment without having the huge bonus that troop quality gives.
In PBEM, I know one guy who likes to put searching & spotting down to 90 because he doesn't like getting shot from across the map. Frankly, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference to me.
I am also in the process of running a multiplayer game with an operational side to it, that uses these preference settings to simulate the effects on the various troops of things like suppressive artillery, being cut-off from supplies, fatigue from constantly fighting for days on end, etc.
