Ok, now I'm confused. What is the differance between all three of these, SPWaW, SPWAW, and SP:WW2? Which one is the best? Which one works on XP?

SPWAW (or SPWaW): Steel Panthers World at War (covers period from 1930 to 1953, free, windows XP friendly, done by Matrix Games)

WinSPMBT; Windows Steel Panthers Main Battle Tank (covers period 1945-2010, free, windows XP friendly, done by Shrapnel Games/SPCamo Workshop)

SP:WW2: Steel Panthers World War Two (covers period 1939-45, free, run on DOS, not so windows XP friendly, done by SPCamo Workshop)

As far as I know, SP:WW2 should be upgraded soon to run more easily on windows. As for the difference between SPWaW and SP:WW2 well, i'll let the specialists answer that (different OOBs, map features, game engine...) :cheeky:

Which one works on XP?Once SPWW2 is ported to Windows I would think all work well under XP. I've never encountered any problems.

Hi.
I have recently started playing SPWW2 after playing SPWaW for a couple of years (both vanilla and SPH2H mod). Although basically the same thing they are very different in two aspects. Gameplay and atmosphere.
It would take ages to explain the differences. Playing is probably the best way to find out.
Personally I now think SPWW2 has a slight edge but both games are definitely worth playing.

SPWaW is a native Windows program so should work on any version of the operating system. It is quite fussy about DirectX and drivers though which can cause CTDs and other problems.
SPWW2 is a DOS program but it is apparently possible to play it on Windows XP. There is some technical help on this in the provided HTML game guide.

Hi.
I have recently started playing SPWW2 .
Captain,
I am trying to find more opponents for SP:WW2 after one of my regular opponents has handed in his Commission.
Are you up for a Game?
Please let me know.
John
"SPWaW is a native Windows program"
I am almost certain, that not one iota of any flavour of Steel Panthers (any spelling :) ) is a "native Windows program".
What SPWaW IS, is a version of the SP3 code, altered to look like the first Steel Panthers game, and with a lot of tweaking to "like" operating in Windows.
SPWW2 is of course a DOS version that has not had any such treatment yet. But that is due to change soon. And will then join WinSPMBT as being more "Windows friendly".
The key thing to remember, is SPWaW was built as a modification the Matrix Games way under the permission of SSI (or whomever owns the label). While SPWW2 and SPMBT (now currently WinSPMBT) was a modification done the SP Camo way.
That is why they are both Steel Panthers, but unique in their own respective approach.
