View Full Version : Any scenario designers out there?
Comrades,
I your contribution is needed ar creating training battle scenarios.
The following scenarios would have to be created:
1. US assault VS East German Defend (1 East German BMP battalion and one EG tank co. & support against reasonable US Tans and Mech inf + arty + air forces.)
2. US assault VS Hungary defend. (1 Hungarian BMP battalion and one tank co. & support against reasonable US Tank and Mech inf + arty + air forces.)
3. US assault VS Soviet Union defend. (1 Soviet BMP battalion and one tank co. & support against reasonable US Tank and Mech inf + arty + air forces.)
4. Soviet Assault VS US defend. (One Soviet BTR battaion and one Tank Battalion with Recon air and arty support VS 1 Bradley 1 M113 mech inf co 1 Abrams & 1 M60TTS platoons defend + recon and arty support)
Common criterias. Existing campaign maps should be used. You can use the CD editor's copy-past function or ask me to do it. (I have the CD version.)
Units have to be the same as described in the starting OOBs.
Please do some I cannot make all of them alone!
Artur.
Artur,
one scenario designer here!
I can get to work on some of those, if the maps are finished it'll be a relatively quick affair - might need some help with the maps as I don't have the CD. (Alternatively I can use some of my own maps...)
Only one thing; are the scenarios meant to be playable as both human vs AI and human vs human?
Wulfir,
Thank you for the offer!
Regarding designing these training scenarios.
1. The pre-made campaign maps shoud be used for the reason of knowing the terrain as well as we can.
2. Forces of the defined OOBs should be used. (a reasonable part of them) You can see thhose threads on the NATP-WP campaign main thread which is accessible ro everybody. The Soviet OOB is also defined in the secure area.
3. The scenarios should be used for PBEM primarily.
4. Using against the AI is a bonus, I did not do anything special with my training scenarios yet they are playable against hte AI to a certain extent. If you have time for it wonderful if not no problem.
The goal of the trainingbattles are:
1. To know the equipment
2. To know some of the terrain (different scenarios shoud be made from different maps of the campaign) (You can use the copy-paste functio to create smaller ones if needed.)
3. To know each other
4. To help bringing the beginner players to a better level and to make the veterans even better :). We share our experience in the tips&tricks threads.
5. to provide input for operational planning. Seriously!!!
6. to have fun :).
Artur.
PS: Let me know on which scens you wish to work just to organize this better. I will do the rest. Feel free to chose what you like. Be very accurate with the OOBs though!
And one last thing. Make it a bit harder for the Pact. To too much harder though. Let it be winnable :).
Artur.
Righto,
I'll begin with making one version of each setup described above...
Point me to where the maps are please, I don't have those.
I would also like to know if there are any rules on mines and defensive fortifications...?
Maps can be downloaded here:
http://www.combat-campaigns.com/spmbt/nato_wp/
At first run leave the mines/obstacles. We shall thrain with them as well, we can make versions of scenarios including them.
Artur.
Have printed the OOBs and begun work on some scenarios..., but I would like to know if the players will be allowed to deploy units when the campaign starts, as in a "common" PBEM, or if it's going to be a set of scenarios.
This will effect scenarios played in a north south environment as well as the possibility of reinforcements.

Then the file comes back to me so I can add the "attacker's" forces and create the PBem file for play. The HIGH SECURITY they added when WinSPMBT 1st came out put this to an end but since they have added the extra "BASIC SECURITY" option its all good again. I also set reinforcements for both sides based on my interpretation of the orders for surrounding/nearby units.

Cool. :)
A little FYI that might be useful: East German vs US Army battles will be generated with East Germany on the left hand side (west) and US Army on the right hand side (east). There are some ways around this, the easiet, hrm I mean easiest, is probably if you use the "swap sides" option before the defender deploys.
First training scen finished...., East Germany defend mission.
Noticed that the BMP-1P Company will not be able to carry all it's support teams within the BMPs at the same time. In the future once the fighitng begins I recommend that one MMG be left behind ant that ALL Strela teams are brought forward.
(US Mech Eng platoon will not be able to carry all Eng Squads forward as well, not enough room in the M113-Dragon APCs. In this scenario I edited the Eng Squads so that they will all be carried within their APCs)
Do I upload the scenarios to this thread?
Wulfir,
There is a training scenarios thread where I uploaded my training scenarios as well.

All standard units need to be able to transport their dismounts.

Well..., would it not be easier to edit the units in the editor when setting up instead, increase carry capacity or decrease the number of men in the dismounted elements...?

I agree. That is the most realistic solution.
Artur.
PS: Wulfir, if you are ready with one scenario please attach it here ASAP. Some players could use it already .

Its no big deal to adjust the OOB's (add another BMP/M113, etc). Besides if I edit stock units stats like that we'll have an endless stream of complaints that someone is hacking the scenario files. :(
Ok.
On the topic of scenarios DD, one thing I'm not entirely clear on has to do with Victory Hexes... will they be used in the battles...?
Ok.

No, they will not. In training battle I placed them on key terrain for the reason of:
1. Indicating people what to take without writing orders
2. Help the AI.
In "real" battles VHexes are without any value.

Ah..., interesting..., pretty cool actually... :smoke:
I'm trying to create just a featureless, flat 160 x 160 map for a scenario and can't figure out how to do so for the life of me.

Tanker,
you can set the size of the map in the preferences menu and there is a button in the (map)editor that will erase everything, trees, hills, roads etc and leave a flat featureless map of either summer grass, autumn ground, snow or desert -depending on what type of map and date you've specified.
