Good idea! If any of you can make a scenario make a US assault VS East german Mech inf force defend using a lot of Air and ADA! mr_clark could be with EG so many goals would be achieved with one training battle. If not use the map of my small scen and buy your forces.

To set a good example, I am going to play a training battle as well . Jadpanther will attempt to crush my defending Americans I will create a scenario on the weekend for that.

I would like to pair Vesku with Rompa playing the small training scenario and rompa should be with the Amis. Pannonicus could play with azog a battle where Americans attack a Hungarian BMP battalion with 1 Armor co + the support.

All units should be bought to fit part of the defined OOBs!!!

I will pair the rest of the players as well.

I know many of you are fellow Blitz members. Everyone is free to report these games if both players agree but I do not suggest to do that. Experiment and learn, do not have a bad feeling if you lose. I got my @ss handed to me by the force XO(Buckaroo) in training battles in the Red Snow campaign but I learned a lot and we gained invaluable information with these training battles.

Pannonicus, You should have 1 BMP battalion with 1 Tank co suppporting them. Azog would have at least 2 American tank compaies, and at least 2 but rather 3 inf companies - half of them with Bradleys. Use a few helicopters on both sides. Americand should use the Radar helo (OH) as well not only the Cobras. Both side sshould use Arty.

I summarized the progress on the training in the 1st post. Those who begin the scen (that means both have sent one turn at least) please notice so that I can update the tracking post.

Since Stonefire is not reachable (for a short while I am sure) and Wulfir and Gun_Go_Boom is available I paired them up. They will play the scen Ex4 in which soviets are assaulting the US. Wulfir shall be with USSR and sets the battle up. mr_clark Vesku and Pannnonicus will set their battle up as well.

Those who finished the training battles are asked to write a short AAR and the information/experience gained from it.

On another note, aside from the fact that this coming week si going to be busier than dog snot at work I can try to take two PBEM games at once, if you can't find an opponent for Wulfir. Though, it will be interesting to see if I can keep the two games separate in my head. :)

Downloaded Ex04; sent PM to Wulfir to get his email. Will be playing the first round so that it will be ready to be sent as soon as I receive his email. Will be going to bed in about an hour or so, and if I haven't heard anything from him by that point it will be at least Tuesday evening before I am able to send him my first turn. Sorry for the delay, but have some certifications coming up this week so that will obviously be the focus for me there.

On another note, still waiting on Stonefire to send me his first turn for the scenario that he and I are to play. Given that he is probably some 8 or so hours ahead of me that makes it early Monday morning his time, and therefore I won't receive his first turn until tomorrow, and it won't be read until at least Tuesday evening.

At any rate, I am still available; just asking everyone to bear with me this week as work is taking priority. And oh yeah can't forget the wife and kids either. :)

I haven't installed it because I have two training battles in version 2.0 running ATM. I have the patches on my machine already and will install them when the games are done.

I have just played the scenario of US attacking Hungarian positions. Quite sobering, I must say.

I destroyed about a company of M1 and 1,5 company of M60s, all SPA, most Stinger teams, and a good number of infantry, mostly in M113s. :) I lost practically my entire force. :cry:

My observations:
-Cobras with TOW are a nightmare, :mad: as long as they have ammo (and a human opponent would keep them reloaded) they hit everything that moves. Fleyta is quite crappy in comparison, inaccurate, and without a punch. I would keep lobbying for removing TOW or to get Sturm. :blab:

-T72 and M60 are about equal over 1500m. None can hurt the other, but M60 spot better, causing more suppression. When coming closer, say between 1500 and 500 meters, T72 has the advantage (if it sees the target). Then both of them have a chance to kill each other, although T72 is better. The ammo my tanks use it not the latest, it would be nice to get some newer from our Soviet allies...

-My units were positioned quite badly, I would have done it in a different way. This greatly reduced our effectiveness. Bit by bit, we were walked over.

-Becuse of TI, it is very hard to mount local counterattacks. You are spotted where you do not expect it.

-BMP-1s with ATGMs are not that useful, rarely they had a chance to fire it, and sometimes when initiating fire, they were hit, so missile did not even left the rail!

-M1s are hard nut to crack, only 125mm guns can do it, but from the side or rear.

-Helicopters should use 80mm unguided rockets, they are much better against vehicles (close attack) than 57mm rockets. Ammo reload should be close, so they can refill.

Overall, quite disappointing experience, I would rather take on Germans or Canadians, than the US. (I played training against them, it is hard, but much better.)

Nice report Pannonicus. Have you tried to slowly withdaw if overwhelmed? Have you tried turning off the BMPS's weapons except the ATGM?

In my other game, with Wulfir, I have sent him the first turn of mine and am awaiting his reply so I can see if he killed my helicopters or not. :)

Try to start the game with basic security and save to slot upper than 5.

If there is no result try to set up a game with no password and promise not to peek :), This isn't for ladder points anyway.

AS Azog says you cant play a PBEM (in secure mod.) on two diffrent computers so I have to fight this one on my work laptop since im working out of home in the weeks now.

Its a royal pain in the butt, I can only play in 800x600 res and no sound and its slow as h**l and my troops run to the most weird hexes because the mouse pad thinks im left clicking when im putting down my finger to hard on it.........

Anyhow Vesku and I are on turn 5 in our training battle.

BASIC secure PBEM works much the same as regular secure PBEM with the following exceptions

OOB's are not checked to see if they are the same version
Loads and saves are not checked and reported if they differ
Basic security PBEM games CAN be played on two different machines by the same player so someone can play on their laptop by day and desktop in the evening.Basic PBEM security games have encrypted DAT files just as regular secure PBEM does so Basic security games have to be saved in the secure PBEM slots.

You have to apply all of them.

Turn 10 going with Rompa and Abrams rules the field. Those bloody things are really hard to destroy.

Started a game with shortreengage. It is for a tournement at the Blitz web site. The game we are playing is "The chinese farm" scenario. It is game turn 4 of 20 and he is still throwing smoke and caustiously advancing. He used his 120mm motar tracks to move forward and throw smoke directly. This was a mistake because I got one with an 85mm gun shot.

I have repositioned my troops from their dug in trenches because he is hittt them with his 155's and using up his ammo on empty fortifications. I am also using his smoke to concel the repositioning of all my forces.

His advance seems cautious to me. after blinding my saggers I would have anticipated his rapid move forward to destroy my on-board forces before reinforcements could arrive. But he is inching forward giving my repositioned infantry and their RPG-7's a chance to dig in and hide themselves for that first killing shot.

More to follow as the game progresses.

Boomer works for me, so long as I'm paying attention and stuff :)

Wish our game could go a little faster, but with real life issues and the time of the year (i.e. holiday season) we are just a tad behind the power curve in comparison to the rest of the WP forces commanders. Bear with us; we'll get in there just fine.

On a side note, Artur, if you don't mind, I'd like to see what I could do in a training scenario (not necessarily one that has already been put together already, but can be done if no one wants to make a new one) playing as a Soviet BMP battalion with or without support. Just to give me the feel of what I have to utilize should I end up killing some NATO pukes. :devil:

After turn 7 I will try a little evaluation from the East German side.

I started with turning the range of all my units except AA to 100m.
Wouldn't risk some trigger-happy guy to reveal our position.
Than I have done some experiment firing at different range at the coming US force


1. BMP-1s with ATGM are at little use against the M1, so far I have made 5 - 6 hits with no result, and even a rear hit did no damage.

2. The M1 and Bradley may hit the BMP before the missile is launched - even if the missile is the ONLY weapon fired .

3. After that I concentrated my fire on M113 loaded with infantry.

4. I have destroyed on helicopter (Not a Cobra but an unarmed one OH?).
But as the cobras stayed in the air during my turn, I tried to fire at them with the heavy AAMG on my tanks, I damaged a few, and I think I have scared them off the map.

5. The BMP's are not able to fire at the helicopters even at close range - is that true in real life?

6. I have managed to destroy one M1 and immobilised another - (brave close attacks with hidden infantry) - now it will be interesting to see if my tanks can do anything.

I finished my training games with Comrade Gergely. He did very well against my West German forces as I tried to just push my way thru him. Not a good thing to do.

Lessons learned for me: I am going to ignore the 20 turn time limit in the games and just play for destroying my opposing forces. If you try to play it as a regular game your losses will be horrible. My main objective from now on will be to keep my forces alive. Unless I get a command from a higher HQ to push forward no matter the cost.......and it will have to be justified to spend my troops.

German equipment .........even their big tanks.........die to the T72's of the Hungarian army .........from distance.

Hungarian Missles are very inaccurate..........not like the americans!!! But when they hit they do kill.

HINDS!!!!!! They can be devestating to one who knows how to use them. I will gladly surrender most of mine to a more experienced commander.

On other topics.

I finished my tourney game with Shortreengage. He is very methodical in his advance.........his Isrealis easily defeated my Egyptians in dug in positions. He uses his Higher tech equipment efficiently to defeat lower tech. He also is a very good tactical commander in use of the battlefield, using cover and finding good fire lanes seems to be easy for him.

On a last note:

I am trying to get another game started with Comrade Imformey but I am experiencing technical problems so we have not started yet.

I am in turn 13 of the training battle with Gung_Go_Boom

I have managed to kill e few Abrams with my T55's - at point blank range - in a forrest - using 4 tanks and 5-6 shots at 99% - lonely Abrams without infantry support.

The first T55 who moved out of the woods was instantly killed.


The game is abit slow going, so I have room for one more training battle (in slot 1-3)

Yopu need to chamge the display settings on the bottom of the page to show all threads from the beginning not jut the last 30 days. These threads are not used too frequently, and that is pretty bad for us. We shall change that don't we :) ?

About 2/3 of the way down under [Thread Display Options] you can set the [Default Thread Age Cut Off]. Each person can set this to whatever available time frame they choose.

I made scenarios for practicing with the forward deployed companies. I ask for volunteers who can train with the four chosen commanders(the East Germans plus two more) (mr_Clark, Stonefire, Vesku, Tanker).

Wulfir will make scenarios for the airmobile companies soon. (Not to be confused with the forward deployed co's).
