but I take it that everyone considers that the Axis Player should still get the 'Barbarossa' Option in an Eastern Crusade game, which can still only happen if the French extend the Maginot Line on Turn One?

You could argue that a German invasion of the USSR in 1939, with a very large contingent of Poles, Rumanians, Hungarians, Finns and Baltic allies, wouldn't have been anything like the June 1941 attack.

Just a thought.

Good question.

I guess we have to look at why "Barbarossa" gets the air advantages it got in 6/41 and would the Axis get the same in, say, 2/40.

I see no reason why the Germans wouldn't launch a similiar air offensive in 1940. Thus, I feel they should still get the "Barbarossa" air shock bonus.:hog:

yes. the soviets didn't know how to counter the blitzkreig, if anything, I think the germans should get a larger shock boost since the soviets knew even less about how to stop a blitzkerig in 39/40 than they did in 41.

I still think even with all the Allies that the German combined attack with armor and airplanes would of been a problem for the Soviets to handle. Most of the Allies would lag behind the main German attack and mop up whatever Soviet junk was left behind.
