ok. so recently i've been playing games with stuarts in them. i used to look at these little things and think they were just cannon fodder. then they started knocking out my panzers with ease. from long distances. i didn't think that was possible! in one incidence a stuart took out my tiger from something like 100 yds. i mean that seems reasonable... but a 37 mm? and then right now in a game i am playing, my pz. III was taken out from ACROSS THE MAP.

so i started thinking of these things as miniature demi-gods of the tank world. so i tried to use them in a recent game. it was taken out by an armored car in the first turn. so now i'm confused. but i'm certain it was my tactics with this small wonder.

so have any of you noticed the same? and what are you most memorable experiences with this tank, or any tank/unit for that matter?

and do any of you guys have any tactical help on using the stuart?

thanks all!

I've never had a Stuart take out a Tiger but I've had armour of various sorts fall victim to the 37mm guns on the same or similar vehicles.

My most memorable tank 'moment' would in an all tank battle between a British force of Shermans, Sherman Fireflies, Churchills and Archers and a German force of Tigers, Panthers and MkIVs. After a long period of attrition I was left with just the Shermans and a couple of Fireflies to hunt down two Tigers and a Panther. One Firefly nailed all three in the space of five or six turns whilst my Shermans acted as bait ..... but they did not die in vain ..... because I won

Stuarts = :hail:

Those "little" 37mm guns are vicious and giant killers!

I'll stack Stuart's up against PzIV's & Panthers any day all things being equal.

 'em!

How can that be? I believe you, but what is it about the small guns that compensates for their size? Is it their ammunition? The speed of the rounds? Something else? Could you elaborate a bit further for us CMAK novices? Tnx.

...it is to do with the paper-thin armour on Mark IV turrents and Panther sides.
The Stuart is very fast, has a good MG suite and a high-velocity gyrostabilized gun.

...it is one of the best "dog-fighting" tanks ever made...IMO... :)

88mm of 0 degree armor penetration at 100 meters, fast, high ROF, lots of MGs and ammo. A platoon of these in a city or forest can give German armor fits.

Its a knife fighter, but a damned good one.

Been play testing a scenario recently ( Test of courage ) and Waleed hit the nail on the head concerning PZIV's and Stuarts.
In the scenario, the French force has a platoon of Stuarts and they have brewed up PZIV's right across the map, no matter what the distance :surprise:
Well worth having a Stuart or two in your force but remember they are lightly armoured.

One key to using the Stuart if you can't get the angles- "SHOOT & SCOOT!"

If you have 2-3 of them popping in & out repeatedly it will cause all sorts of problems for German Pz's and opportunities for some good kills.

Use the Stuarts in a Hide and Seek Manner and try to use a minimum of a platoons worth... They can be very distruptive. Speed and use of terrain can make these little buggers a big hit... Another great thing about the Stuart is 'Canister' Rounds.... Makes that enemy infantry hug the ground...

That is all...

Just never try and go head to head in the "open" against the heavier Pz's!
Stuarts will "back up" if you try this, but come at them from angles & the AI doesn't seem as skittish.

That Santa had been Berkut37 :D ... He gave his copy to me while he quited playing CM as RL duty called. But there was one file corrupted while trying to install, I was just too lazy and too busy to search for a patch to make it good :)

Jaeger hit the nail on the head.

The stuart is an infantry support suite and damn good in-close knife fighter vs. any Pz except the Luchs. They are, however paper-thin in the armor department and even 28mm squeeze bores can punch holes in them. Use your 81s or 105s to smoke the big kitties then move in fast from the flanks in platoon strength and they won't be able to stop you. Just be damn sure you have properly reconned for enemy guns before hand. I have felled my share of Tigers, Pz4 and even a panther or 2. The key is continuous movement in and around the enemy once you have closed with them. You cannot give their turrets time to rotate onto to you.

In a game just the other day , I had two stuarts running around a Brumbar , he couldn't turn fast enough. The story doesnot end well though, he brings another one in from the side and takes one stuart out. Now I am running for my life..... The hunter become the hunted. :smoke:
