I ran into problems after updating my drivers and DirectX this week. It looks like the ddraw.dll from CMBB and CMAK breaks on the new DirectX 9.0c and/or Nvidia 81.85 driver. However, I can load CMBO in 640-480 @ 60Hz.
Can anyone offer some troubleshooting tips?

I have a 6600GT graphics card and I have to say that the drivers that post-date 66.93 have been, how can I say, less than compatible with it. I'd roll back the drivers if I were you, no matter what card you have.

Good idea. I have a GeForce 5200 FX and used the 71.xx driver with no problem. I'll load that one up and see if I can get it to work.

If that doesn't do the trick then you could try re-installing DirectX. Download it from Microsoft if you can rather than from a disc (or re-download it if necessary) but I think it's a driver problem. I'm pretty sure the 8x.xx Nvidia drivers only support 6 and 7 series cards. Officially the ones you have do, but I'd be wary.

Well, that did not work. I tried the 66.xx driver and still have the same problem. Even tried some of the suggestions from the CM books without success. Tomorrow, I will try to reinstall DirectX.

You should try DirectX diagnostic program to see if DirectDraw and Direct3D are working properly.
Click the Start menu, click "Run..." and type dxdiag.

Ran the dxdiag and found that the DirectDraw acceleration was turned off. Turned it back on and it works using the 81.85 driver. Thanks JML for the tip.

So often it's the simple things :)

Still, glad you're all up and running.
