I was wondering if others are seeing the same thing I am in regards to the Axis in 1940.

This truly is the year of the Axis, much more so than it really was.

In my current game against Chuck, in 1940 he was able to defeat the French, move many German units into NA (think he may have, hopefully, given up on that front), invaded and advanced into England and is also now advancing into Russia (we're mid/late '41 now.)

I have played several hotseat games and find the same thing happening most every time. The Germans can attack anywhere and, almost, everywhere at will in 1940 and 1941.

The best possible solution, to me, is to have a temporary reduction in Axis supply 4-6 turns after a major DOW (ala France). Major being USSR DOW and invasion of England. This would delay his advance, give the allied player a little more time to regroup or even counterattack. In addition to the change in Libian supply, a better balance would be achieved. The game seems, to me, to be balanced much more in the Axis players direction. I've yet to see the Allies win a game.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, has the U.S. even been a factor in the game for anyone? Or has the game pretty much been decided before the U.S. really get involved? If so, this ties into my Axis '40/'41 comment :)

The idea is for the British and/or the Soviet Union to hold on until the later years of the game at which point the United States will enter the war. Once the Germans face the full power of the USA and the USSR they have only one direction to move: backward.

The goal of the Axis is to take out as many Allied nations as quickly as possible before the US and USSR are ready for full scale war. For the Axis to win the game they need to eliminate the Soviets ASAP before the task becomes impossible.

Seizing the UK doesn't end the game but makes it much tougher for the Americans to start a second front somewhere in western Europe. The huge number of US aircraft that arrive later in the game will also have no where to fly from.

See the well done AAR by Siberian Heat on his Allied victory over the Axis forces.

alot of it depends on the relative skill/experiance of the players. In my game against Kraut, who is somewhat better of a player than I, he managed to inflict severe losses on my forces in France. It's now turn 106, and while I'm still advancing, I strongly doubt I'll be able to press past much moscow, assuming I cna take the city in the 1st place. For a more extreme example, in my game with Vaughn, it's turn 60, and not only have the allies stopped the axis cold but they've destroyed 4 german corps in norhtern italy breaking the front wide open, and my landing in anzio has captured Rome. There're 6 infantry and 1 tank corp + 1 tank div still in italy, I expect to bag most of them the in the next month. I doubt the game will last much more than a year beyond the soviet entry, and the biggest strategic question is if I can garrison italy against a landing from the balkans and maintain the drive on vienna at the same time. For annother allied win, my 1.5 EC game with Faron ended with my surrender in mid43, the game wouldn't've lasted past the winter even if I continued.
