I have had this game for awhile,experimenting with it. It seems like THE wargame from reading the manual. I have had alot of problems/questions though,and would love if anyone can help.
1) It seems set up to allow aircraft carriers to launch aircraft...however,in game, I have yet to be able to accomplish this..what is the procedure?
2)Creating a scenario...weather periods set to 6 hrs..set the LOS for the nighttime portions,to 1500m...however,everytime I am done, and go back to look, it is back at the original 10km...How can I make it stay,trying to set up a "knife-fight-in-the-dark'' type of scen.
3) In the dataview, I created a special unit,experimenting. It allowed me to put in the data, but there is no 'save' function..which means that on closing, my unit is all gone.


This game shows so very much promise if everything will work as stated, as it stands right now some friends and I have used alot of the manual rules to set up a miniatures-type scenario,and it is great..I am hoping that I can figure out more though.

I have been playing around with POA2 since it was released. It has come a long way and have gotten better. There still are some rough areas and not everything is working right still. However, Scott has not given up on it and continues to work on it. My first question is--what build are you running. Scott just received a new build and you should run over to HPS web site and download it.

1. This one I don't know about. I have not tried this. I personally doubt it is possible, but I could be wrong.

2. I just created a test scenario to check this out. It worked ok on my system. I changed everything as you said and it stuck. I saved the scenario and went back and it was the way I edited it. Update to the new version and see if that helps.

3. You cannot add units to the dataview. I believe that you can take existing units and build you own TOE's (I may be wrong there), but you cannot change or alter the existing units or weapons

1. I am not sure how / where to place "aircraft" when building a scenario - I'd like a detailed walk through on this one.

2. I am not even sure how to make a close "knife fight" type scenario - Would like to hear how you are going about it - Which maps are you using?

3. As for creating new units - You can't create new "weapon" systems. But you can create your own units / TOE's within the dataview-

You can create for example your own 8 man SOF team if you'd like - Using the differing "Delta" Operators....or Rangers or Marine Inf, etc, etc - You can also give their TOE their own vehicles, etc, etc.

Though my question is how accurate will POA2 reflect this smaller unit warfare?

1) In the manual it talks about creating a unit by firing a weapon,and uses aircraft carrier as the example..I do use air support in mine,and as the game is co-designed by the air force,it is very detailed for air..on the weapon system cvn-68(Nimitz class aircraft carrier)in the database,listed as a weapon is the catapults,and listed as ammo is the aircraft,but they are not listed as primary weapon,but as secondary,so I tried to change this,but the change does not hold. Have not yet been able to get them to 'fire' in a game situation. So I have just put planes usually in from scen start.
2)The knife fight scen,basically meaning poor visibility,no scouting except what you are able to do with your units,so engagements usually will occur almost point blank,unless you do some active scouting/rec. Using Don's coastal airfield map. Mostly as a test for a larger scen I am making "Blackhawk Down" and individual fire teams do quite well in the game engine, even individual soldiers.

I need to start doing some more play testing with POA2 - Took it off my HD for about 6 months - Put it back on last month - But have only play tested very quickly -

Now another new patch is out 2.96 (I think is the version).

I need to get to understand the whole game play better. For certain. Also, would like to learn the scenario builder better to. That is a must for me to keep with POA2. (once I learn the basics of game play).

If you put together any small scenario's ...post them here if you can. Would like to play through them....see how they were built.
