Guys, as most of you saw on the main Warfare HQ news page Joe Osborne has decided to move on to bigger and better things. The automated scenario archive was his creation and it resides on his server. None of the rest of us have the experience and/or skills necessarry to maintain and update this database, even though I believe Joe has left us with a copy of the ASP files.
For now the scenario archive is still fully operational and Joe has kindly allowed us to continue using his server. I can't say how long that will continue.
I have all the scenarios from the archive saved on the main Warfare HQ server, but they are just the raw zip files. Neither Pete nor I has the computer talent to program a replacement system like the automated database that Joe put together. We are currently exploring our options. This may mean that we have to design a somewhat less feature-rich tool where the user fills out a form and the webpage sends an email to the appropriate staff member with the scenario as an attachment. Obviously, that would mean that uploads would not be instantaneous.
We are still discussing the situation. If you need scenarios then this may be the time to get them, however, please don't everyone rush over there and download everything at once. The bandwidth limitations will only hasten its demise.

I for one am very interested in new scenarios for TOAW.
I am a bit baffled by the results that google gives me, there is so much out there, and one does not usually know wether it's meant for human against human play, or has a inbuilt ai in it for a worthy solitary play.
Also when I receive the zip file, If it's only the scenario, fine !
I unzip it and put it into the scenarios folder.
But if there are text files added (there are two differrent formats of text files that can come added I have noticed, why I dont know), or even some graphic files, I dont know always where to put them, I go by the icon, but there have been problems.
I have a meg a second lan, so I dont mind downloading the whole scenario into scenarios, with (I pray someday) instructions on what to do with any added files.
Also, although many scenario makers and every guy or gal who makes the effort of making a scenario on the editor (I have dabbled with, but I'm pretty hopeless, so hats off to all you scenario makers!) deserves respect for their efforts, but it would help if with the file there would be a kind of description about wether it's suited for solitary, or if it's meant to be played on one side ect, and this without unzipping anything.
What I'm trying to say, is that I would like to have a kind of categorized scenario database, for easy downloading.
One scenarion that I downloaded, always crashed my machine!
Well I guess what I wish is a scenario database for us simpletons, who just like to have fun playing, and are not experts in the minutae, otherwize I would be drinking coffee with Linus Torvalds!
Thanks for your efforts guy's, I think this is an amazing site!
You have your mil history debates, and you have the bestest gaming support I have found! :)
p.s. also the various (exellent) pieces of advice on different aspects of TOAW gaming, that I have downloaded a couple of, It would be great if they would all be in one place, and if someone feels up to it, I shurely would need an 'Idiots' guide to using the scenario editor!

Also, I am at a loss with Combat Mission pbm files!
my intended pbm buddy sent me a CM B to B file, and I got a whole lot of code on my e-mail!
What do I do with this???
Also, I have toaw cow, and having problems with pbm, every third turn or so, it refuses to accept the password (yes, I do have patch 1.04 )...
I have 'cured' this by putting my saves onto another place, then unistalling TOAW, and then re Installing it.
But now I had a cituation when even that didnt work! I finally got it to go by putting run file, and when it asked whith which prog, I browsed toaw! But hey, am I the only guy with this problem???
Also, the pmb move i had received before my christmas trip to england and luckily had already downloaded, when returning to finland, hotmail suddenly reports to me that it contains a virus!
No pmb toaw moves have had viruses before, and during december when I originally got it, it didnt seem to have viruses on it, is it possibe that hotmail has viruses in it roaming around, I have the highest security settings with my F-Prot security program, which nowadays is unable to dissinfect somekind of korgo thing, and I remove them, my firewall is on from my internet lan provider, and F-Prot has another one, I'm dizzy... help :OHNO:

what a shame
do you "just" need a programmer?
or the space for scenarios as well?
Man, that's an old thread! Let's see if we can answer some of your questions...
I for one am very interested in new scenarios for TOAW.
I am a bit baffled by the results that google gives me, there is so much out there, and one does not usually know wether it's meant for human against human play, or has a inbuilt ai in it for a worthy solitary play. There are several TOAW scenario repositories around :
Here of course (http://www.warfarehq.com/archives/forumdisplay.php?f=8) :)
Rugged Defense (http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/) (the largest database I think)
The Wargamer (http://www.wargamer.com/gamesdepot/search_game.asp)
You can also check with profit the TDG (http://www.tdg.nu) site for new scenarios and there are quite a few designer's personal sites floating around.
You can put the text files coming with the scenario zip file anywhere you see fit be them in the 'scenarios' subfolder or in an ad hoc 'Scenario notes' folder on your desktop.

What do I do with this???Not the slightest idea :D (maybe you should post something to that effect in the CM forum).

what a shame
do you "just" need a programmer?
or the space for scenarios as well? Well, maybe the situation has evolved a little since august 2002!
Also, I am at a loss with Combat Mission pbm files!
my intended pbm buddy sent me a CM B to B file, and I got a whole lot of code on my e-mail!
What do I do with this???Depending on your email program, you can just hit "save as" for that email and then save it in your pbem folder for the game. When you launch and select it, CM will automatically parse out the extra email junk to dig out just the data needed for the turn.
Or, you can copy from the -----EMAIL TURN STARTS HERE------ to ----EMAIL TURN ENDS HERE------ (or whatever it says) and then paste that into notepad and save it as your turn. Try option #1 first though, much easier.
If an ASP programmer wants to contact me for some ideas on setting up a scenario repository for those TOAW scenario's Don, send them my way. As you may know, I programmed http://www.the-proving-grounds.com for Combat Mission scenario testing that has a full search and find features for those scenarios. My site isn't programmed in ASP though, so sorry, can't help with the actual programming, but I can offer suggestions to a programmer on things that I did in my programming language of choice that could possibly be translated over to ASP.

Please note this thread is from 2002, and our scenario archive has no plans to change or move anytime soon. In fact, I'm going to edit the thread title so there is no more confusion (even I was confused when I first saw the title!).

I picked some of the more interesting scenarios for toaw and one tester for combat mission, I will also try the before mentioned one.
I ended up having about 25 scenarios in my temp folder, and although I tried to be selective, I now have about 20 new scenarios on my TOAW!
I had a couple of turns on the Imphal/cohima scen, and enjoyed myself mightily!
Thank god for you guys who see the trouble of making new scens!
I have a plan of trying to find out the order of battle for the finnish ww2 wars, now if someone is on for the programming, The Winter and contiuation wars give some really interesting options, apart (I can only comment from the Finnish side), some very tricky tactical op's!
So, lets see...
mr poundr...
p.s. i visited and registered (for downloads only for now, as i'm still wet behind the ears, and I know just how unforgiving combat mission is! Thats why it's the 'Toaw' of tactics, or the pc 'Squad leader' if I may say so)... :)

That shouldn't be too difficult. There is a 1943 OOB at the Kursk page and probably Sheik Yerbouti can help you with the rest.

I was pointed out to a winter war 39-40 scenario that I belive mr Menschenfresser had built, I am playing the computer and although it centers on southern and a bit of central finlands frontiers, It seems a jolly good job, and I have been really moved by the trouble he went to...
Ofcourse I suspect that it is a bit too 'big' scaled to really mirrour the winter war, where a single ski troop platoon could be a block on a forrest road for a huge Russian force, still it looks like a good scenario, and I will gladly pass it on to anyone interested.
remember to thank mr menschenfresser if you bump into him!
mr poundr.
p.s. forgive my ongoing ignorance in such matters as shortcuts, but what is an obb, and which kursk page are you referring to?
Sorry, I'm just slow with all the pc tech stuff, it took me a week to figure out how to play toaw pbm! :dead:
OOB is Order of Battle, you know, those little pieces that carry the burden of battle :)
The Kursk page can be found here:
