One Century of Warfare question: no matter what I select in the View - placenames option, I never get to see the names of places. The display normally when I create a TGA file from the editor.

Now, I've played TOAW 2 before TOAW-CW and I could easily activate place names with the above option, but in CW it just doesn't work!

I'm I insane or is it really impossible to display names?

I believe this is a compatability problem with Windows XP... and is apparently avoidable. I'll be damned if I remember how.

Ha! I knew it.

TOAW 2 couldn't run at all under XP. I just knew CW had to have some problem under XP.

It wouldn't be fun it everything functioned as it should... :cheeky:

Well I have XP and place names work. Have you tried the compatability settings?

Not sure. I think I activated a Win '95 compatibility mode, but aren't home right now. I'll check on it and get back to you tommorow.

You need to run it under Win 2000 compat mode, and your problems will be solved.

(Right click on the file, go to properties, then click the compat tab - just in case you're not sure how you got to the proper place to set this option. )

Also, be sure to have your TOAW CoW patched up to 1.04 as the latest patch specifically corrected this kind of trouble - from the readme file:

Version 1.04
[...]
A problem with place name text not appearing on the map under Windows® NT and Windows® 2000 has been corrected.

Thanx, guys!

It works! ;)

Now I have to correct all the maps I made where I blacked out cities... dozens of them... :OHNO:
