What with the misgivings some people have aired on this forum about the setting for the new CM what do people think of the civilians role will be in the game?
As it places a cutting edge modern army against one that is fairly outdated in an urban environment i can see them being fairly vunerable. Do you think they will factor in "collateral damage" however distasteful this might be? or will they just use them as a prop for "the good guys" to protect from the "bad guys".
I think it would be interesting to have to move your troops civillian areas and trying to keep their injury and death to a minimum (whatever that is) but i might feel a bit dirty afterwards. :nervous:
The most I would want to see is civilians just running away to give it a "real" feeling of "Hey a fight is breaking out, run & hide!" and then they disappear.
No shooting of /at them etc. Could be done in WW2 versions as well.

There should be none at all. i know its not realistic but it avoids all the un-politically correctness of having a game where arab civillians can be killed by US soldiers.
SF - from what i understand at this point, will be essentially like Iraq, and correct me if im wrong, but when faced with superior fire power in the field, you resort to different tactics, and that includes hiding out with the civilian population, hit and run attacks, classic stuff that every nation has done to a greater or lesser degree over the years.
So, to have a insurgency type force hiding out inna town with no civilian population to hide amounst is kinda dumb, almost like an air force with no planes.
But what would you expect if you launched a fantastic new game engine with the first exciting combat being in the highly sought after & interesting battles in Syria?
Syria? How many thousands of players have been demanding a battle in that hot bed of military conflict? Syria...?
I guess from a designers point of view you have unlimited options there.

I completely understand what you are saying Tripps, from a purely "Grogs" point of view. but i can assure you of this much, if US soldiers can kill Arab civilians in this game the left wing media types/ and the Hillary Clinton's and Ted Kennedy's in this country will have a field day on it and spin it way out of porportion and control. you have no idea what they will say or where they will take the issue. it will explode into epic porportions, mark my words.

I wouldn't worry about civilians roaming about gentlemen, there won't be any. The US force will be made up of light infantry with the usual support we see on our nightly news - light armour through Abrams and Apaches (I would imagine). The civilians would have scattered and the US will be free to engage snipers/insurgents or the heavier conventional forces of the opposition at their leisure. The contest will revolve around getting the bad guys with as few casualties to US forces as possible.
I really do wonder if they have designed in IEDs and suicide bombers? If one is interested in the answer, one will have to make the purchase.

If what everyone is saying about BFC chasing some military contract is true then they will have to have US soldiers killing Arab civilians as this is a fact of life nowadays, however unfortunate.
If the civs just scream and runaway to saftey (off the screen) then the value to the military for MOUT would be minimal i would have thought.
But CM was not built on 1 on 1 encounters or tactics but squads & platoons, and those of us playing CM play it for that reason.
If CMx2 goes to small units it just doesn't interest me, besides I'd play CoD2 WW2 for that kind of stuff.
I completely understand what you are saying Tripps, from a purely "Grogs" point of view. wow i got called a grog :) i dont know if i should be called that tho, dont think im worthy enough!

We have to face facts tho, it does happen, and will continue to happen, in this type of conflict - i remember some commander just after the fall of Baghdad saying oohhh they are hiding amounst the population and wont come out to fight us on our terms, and i was thinking you have got to be kidding, they still teach at west point dont they?
Anyways, to then try and model a sim on it, without that element, sounds like rubbish.
By im pre judging, i'll wait for the demo to come out, then call it rubbish :cheeky:
