Hello gents,

Time again for "What "special" units do you like in CM," or just like period whether you use it or not?

Ex.
Soviet- Ampuloment "flamethrower" / ISU 152mm ASG
German- Sturmmorse Tiger 380mm /Stummel 1/2T / 88mm ATG
USA- M4105 Sherman, .50 Cal HMG
UK- Churchill Crocodile F/T, PIAT Team

Just those unique units you'd like to have in a game...

I'm partial to the Lynx IIL, Hertzer and Stuart.

What say you? And if you use them in the game any tips for us?

for me, it is simple: bigger gun and even bigger guns :D

So Tiger and SU152 are the best to my taste ... yummy ... hmm....

I quite love the Sturmtiger. When playing an assault game, the massive cannon makes quick work of AT guns and defending inf. I've even managed to take out an IS2 with a side hull hit with it's cannon.

The Flammpanzer III is another favorite of mine. It's flame thrower has a decent range and ammo loadout and is perfect for clearing pesky inf positions. I think the Sherman flamethrowers are much better range and ammo loadout though but I haven't had a chance to try those yet.

When I saw the subject line I thought it was about the smartest uniforms! :salute:

Units that explode when they're hit are always fun!

I usually think that the one or two units I have left alive at the end of a game are neat, as in neat that at least they managed to survive!

Panzer IV with Canister rounds in the vicinty of pesky russian defenders.

For those who have not tried them yet, early war, north (or all setting) will get you Finnish Sissi squads...
Deadly in urban/woods/close quarter combat against everything as all they pack are SMG's, grenades, and Demo charges :)

I have recently discovered the German 44 Gebirgs squad.

6xMP40, 2 Rifle and an LMG. Limited ammo, but great for street fighting and forest ambushes.

The Gebirgs have a whole series of Ops in both CMAK and BB under the title GP. Im almost done playing GP5 Chemnitz (Sp). A little cracker of an OP and I recommend it to anyone.

Had 1 Squad take out a whole Soviet Gds platoon for the loss of 1 man.

Now thats a neat unit.

Aslo, the mighty Greyhound. Fast, good gun, good MG and has cannistewr for those Inf unlucky enough to stand up in front of it. A pack of Greyhounds are worth their weight in gold in my opinion.

Hello gents,
Ex.

ok, apart from trying them out when BB first came out - and thought "well they suck" - i've yet to use them again - has anybody used them with any great sucess at all? How were they? They are deemed Anti Tank Mortars, as in, a big molotov cocktail chucker, and molotovs were never that great, but maybe with 2 or 3 throwing 20 a turn at a tank might be more effective?

Nope, they are useless, and your wit is non-surpassed :D

A "unit" doesn't have to be effective to qualify as "neat" in this thread. :p

You only have to personally like it for whatever reason.

Ampuloment's- I tried them a long time ago and found them wanting, they seem to be best used in an ambush situation.

Quad 50 cals or the German quad 20s - both are good 'meat choppers'.

I really don't get too crazy about "funnies". But, there are a few weapons/units that I just love to have in any OB.

German: Tiger tanks and umm Tiger tanks!
Russian: SU-76, T-34/85, Katyusha Barrages
U.S.: M8 Greyhounds, M7 Priest
British: Crocks and Bren Carriers
All nationalities: Anti Tank Teams (except PIATs) and Flamethrowers -- only good at point blank range, but so satisfying when you get a kill with one!

In one scenario I actually killed 2 x PzIII and a PzIV with 2 Ampuloment teams, about 100-150 yards side on. My opponent was not too pleased! Apart from that they are good for setting stuff on fire around your enemy infantry.

Brumbars. A good 30+ rounds of nasty 150 and heavy well sloped frontal armor. I wish BO had them!

I'd love to try a sturm tiger but I never got around to it. I understand they can vaporize large areas?

If your Sturmtiger ends a round without inflicting at least 100 casualties, you weren't trying. Both times I've used one, it took out 200+ infantry and 1 or 2 T34s, though it did eventually fall. Like flamethrowes, Sturmtigers just draw way to high a priority when spotted to stay alive for very long, though you can set some great ambushes for the enemy tanks that will try to flank it.

I really like Sturmtigers to initiate Urabn Renewal programs...one shot one pile of rubble!!!

I dont know how anyone couldnt have the Sturmtiger at the top of the list. Its gun and its capabilities are simply awe inspiring. :hail:
