Hi all, i recently upgraded my CS holding's to all the Gold editions, but i may have encountered a problem (or may not), i'm not really sure. Anyway, i have Windows XP.

I deleted all the exisiting games, and installed ver 1.03 from scratch, no problem and seems fine. I then installed the PB 1 disc, and as this was installing i was asked on 30 - 50 files that i couldn't overwrite certain files and that only by pressinf the re-try key was the software able to continue to load. I am now playing a PBEM game to see if any problems show up. Has anyone seen this before? Do i have a problem (not personally i hope :-). Have some files remained unaltered and will this affect game play at all. Any advice greatly appriecated.

cheers.
Robert

Bizarre indeed.

Do you recall any of the file names that the install was being hung up on?

Take care and good luck

Hi Jason, sorry for the slow reply. I am playing a game against Hawk to test this out and so far no error messages have appeared. Some of the files i can remember, they were unit files, sound files. More to do with the guts of the game rather than any graphic files which i dont remember at all. More i think about it i think after this game i'll try and re-install the PB 1 disc again and see what happens (and have a pen and paper handy). cheers. Robert.

Hi Jason, and anyone else who can help/advise. I thought i would try and see whether i can replicate the earlier problems.

I chose hollow truimph, the night scenario with star shells to see what happens.

1. First off, how do you use star shells, the manual i have does not say how to.

2. Using my existing setup (without re-installing the game, the gold edition ver 1.03 and the PB 1 disc). i noticed that i have a series of red boxes at the bottom of the screen. Which i assumed were some weird icon for the star shells which i cannot get to work.

3. So i un-installed the game and loaded the Gold edition only and went into the same game and the little red boxes are now yellow fireworks that look suspicially like star shells, but i still cannot get them to work.

4. I then loaded the PB 1 disc and various files came with the same message that i got last time, which was, exisiting file marked read only, hit retry, (to remove and try again), ignore or abort. Now all loads came up as successful. Random files asking for retry were battalion00.oob and up00205.bmp amongst others.

5. I go into the same game again, and guess what the little flare icon is gone replaced with the little red boxes, and i still cant get the flares to work.

6. Anybody got any clues, it would be appreciated.

cheers
Robert

The icons for starshells are just there to show you the amount you have left, just like the smoke icon. In order to fire a starshell, you need to choose just about any type of unit capable of firing, and hold down the shft+ctrl+alt while clicking on the target you want the starshell to land. Tips: You don't get to fire starshells very far away from the firing hex. You will get much more success at having the starshell actually fire and land where you want it by having a commander that belongs to the firing unit in the hex when he fires the shell. You cannot set a starshell duing your artillery plotting. It will immediately fire when you plot it. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong please.

I can't answer this question. I don't remember that happening when I installed the pb1 disk, and I'm too lazy to go through it again.

Hope this helped abit.

Cheers,

Hi Mr. Cousin,

I had the same problem of files not overwriting. I spent the long tedious process of identifying each file, as it popped up. Then I would right click on the the file in question and click properties to change it from a read only file. Then the install would continue until I got to the next 'read only' file. I'd write down it's name and change from read only.
Very bizarre. I'm not sure how long the process took but the disk did complete loading and I am glad I went through it!

Regards,

Ed
