Soviet Commanders/players, please discuss the Soviet Force Organization here. Basically who will command/control what units.
Hello everyone.
From my point of view we do not need a Soviet over-all commander just Regimental commanders and let the WP commander be the soviet over-all commander as well. This way we have a flat organization, as a both GDR and Hungarian forces are more or less at size of a regiment.

I always thought this way - there is no need to have one more level.
So I would say, we should have:
-Overall Commander
-Regimental Commanders for each Reg.
-Deputy commanders for each Reg.
Staff (comprising of Reg. commanders and deputies)
-Intel
-Logistics (if there is to be)
-Operations (helping formulate op. orders)
-Internal security :devious:

Regarding staff I would do the following
-CO
He has THREE tasks, that is to
1.keep everything rolling. Assigns tasks
2.makes tasks being executed.(the worst part is when you have to track players eho is in which turn etc. -regimental commanders help him with that)
3.makes decisions on possible alternatives
-CO deputy
does the same as the CO shares the workload and makes decisions if CO is not available
-Intel (he will go to every player and make him report about losses and spotted units then collect the data-he moderates the intel forum)
-Operations (coordinates the group of players players involved in operational planning and come up with one or more alternatives on which the CO will decide. He is responsible that the team has an over-all strategic plan -he moderates the planning forum)
-Training coordinator (coordinates the training activities, ensures that everybody playes training scenarios pairs people up for training battles, coolects tips&tricks etc. -he moderates the training forum)
-Propaganda (one perso who is responsible for WP team PR on the broader forums, comments events, etc)
Regimental commanders assign commanders for battles of the regiment and tracks the progress of the battles, who has the turn etc.
(I think we do not need the logistics officer unless DD makes some more sophisticated supply rules and regarding internal security we will decide together on new people. Unless somebody feels like it to investigate on the new people of course)
Artur.
Just one addition to the things written above. One commander can have more staff duties if there are not enough volunteers eg one can be the deputy CO and intel officer, The other can be the training coordinator, the propaganda officer and a member of the team that works on operational plans.
The CO is advised to take part in operational planning of course but he has to pay attention to all what is going on so no additional duties are recommended IMHO.
Besides the CO a strog staff of at least 2 more people is needed but the ideal would be if everyone would be involved somewhere in the staff work. Eg helping the intel officer collecting intel data, help to coordinate the trainings, create training scenarios, and of course to add your ideas in operational planning.
This is by far not only about playing SPMBT.

-Propaganda (one perso who is responsible for WP team PR on the broader forums, comments events, etc)I have some plans for "promoting" this event and would welcome a person in ths capacity (for both teams). They should accumulate screenshots from players along with their comments on the fighting they are engaged in for "News Release" type stuff on the main forums and SP Website.
I never picked a Reg. or spec. country, is there something left or am I on standby and simply jump in where and when needed?
This is my first experience with Combat Campaigns, so dont count on me in on the staff duties (I really dont know what to expect off this, but if its even half the fun I think, it will be blast).

I never picked a Reg. or spec. country, is there something left or am I on standby and simply jump in where and when needed? No need to pick a specific nation or unit. Just follow along and you'll be included as much as the team can. Contribute as much as you have time to and feel comfortable doing.
Hi ...I am in the same boat as Rompa this is a first for me so it will be a learning experience.

I'd like the lead Motorized Inf Reg. in the main effort to push into NATO's area...
When will we konw our what we got?
And what is this about forms to fill out?
Anyone have any idea of what the assignments for the units are going to be and who is going to be in overall command. Myself, I would be better in a subordinate command assisting since this campaign is a first for me. :) I have been trying out random battles against the computer using the equipment we will have but would like to practice with one of my co-commanders to get some experience against a human opponent and try out tactics....anyone interested please let me know and we could set up an email game.

Hey Tom,
I would like to have a game with you.
What settings do you have in mind? Maybe a small scenario that we can both use NATO and WP equipment once?
We should better wait for the patch, anyways, so we have some time making that clear. Just PM me or send a mail to clark_pbem(at)gmx.de
I'd also be interested to play small pbem-games beforehand... I could use the experience against a human opponent & pbem-system in winspbmt, and of course learn some anti-NATO tricks for the campaign... If anyone is interested, PM or email me at azog83@hotmail.com
So that would make it six guys in staff. We have 5? regiments which makes 30 positions to fill and 12 guys. We need a bit lighther staff, I would think. 3 players per regiment would make it easier to keep in touch with the action when you can mostly dedicate yourself with only one regiment and maybe a minor position in another.

Sorry fellows but I'll have to resign before this starts. I can't be certain that my winmbt allows me to play so I'd better quit before I ruin the whole campaign.
vesku
Vesku,
What is your problem exactly? Don't give up so easily!!!!!

Sorry fellows but I'll have to resign before this starts. I can't be certain that my winmbt allows me to play so I'd better quit before I ruin the whole campaign. Is it a problem with your copy running on your PC? There is no special setups for running the battles I'll be creating during the campaign. The security feature should NOT be an issue like it has in the past crashing muli-player battles that is.
The problem is that I can't open any files since couple days back. My winmbt ver1 and ver2 both crashes to desktop. I've done a fresh install which keeps crashing and I have backed up my OS from a restore point and still mbt keeps crashing. If you can solve that, I'd be greatful.
Vesku
What is your OS, and have you checked your PC vith an anti-virus software?
Have you installed any DirectX version lately?
Artur.
PS: You can also ask for thechnical help at the schrapnel forum.
XP pro, I have checked for viruses, none found, no new DirectX on my PC and I'm rather fed up with the engine anyway so it's not a biggie to stop playing.

Did the crashing start right after installed the upgrade/patch? Just curious, you are the only one that I have heard this has happened to where it worked and then suddenly stopped working.
In any event my post in the Soviet Commander thread still stands. There are more things involved in this than playing the Tactical WinSPMBT Battles. Artur can tell you that.
Vesku what are your problems with the engine?
Artur.
PS: your problem seems mysterious... Could you try to switch betreen Directx and GDI options?
No, we had couple of turns with azog before it started acting up and it was ver1 that did it first.
I don't think that I'd be into that, I like more playing than administrating, sorry.
Vesku
The crashing, what else could it be.
Thanks, you solved my problem. I did uninstall a game that probably (never played the game) used directx. I reinstalled directx and now I was able to play one turn without a crash. At the moment I'm willing to give it a try.

Actual WP Command can be decided once we get to the point where units will be deployed on the Operational Map.
Right now the players for the National teams should make sure they understand their own internal Chain of Command and who will be responsible for communicating to higher "in an official capacity".
In addition, each "team" should be reviewing their OOB's.
Sounds convincing. :)
Well, IIRC I was the East German Commander, if nobody else wants to take the job the others interested in playing this fine nation can start discussing what we are about to do. And what Chain of Command we use.(maybe in a new thread :P)

So what is the status of the campaign command structure? I still have command of my Regiment I hope. Also I need to get a copy of cocat to run on my laptop.
Jad
Jad,
Nothing has changed in the last weeks. You have your regiment.

Sorry. My mbt is running just fine.
