I've noticed that there are hardly any Rising Sun PBEM games in the ladder lists. Is there a reason for this?

Probably because there are so few balanced RS scenarios made for human vs human play. WF suffers from the same problem, but to a lesser extent. Jim Rose was convinced (even though the bulk of the beta testers tried to convince otherwise pre release) that the game was being played more often vs the AI...maybe he was right then(though I still don't think so) but the bulk of the guys still playing it now are playing pbem, I would guess. There are a lot of good custom WF scenarios out there for HTH- hopefully scenario designers will fill the void for RS.

Also, I think the lack of Panther and Tiger tanks in the Japanese OOB has something to do with it :cheeky:

I play all 3 games. They are great.

For me, play vs. AI is great - mainly because I'm still largely unfamiliar with the Japanese oob. I've never even tried to see which RS scenarios are made for pbem, let alone check for balance.

But I would like to add then when I do get around to playing, I enjoy play vs. AI immensely. (most of my CS experiences are vs. the AI) The Japanese do have a poor selection of tanks, but they certainly exist. They remind me most of the Italians in types of tanks and general strength, only with better infantry and planes.

Later! :)

The problem with the Japanese is that they were outclassed in the latter part of the war and so they tend to loose in RS which is mostly 1942-45. Against their opponents in China, USSR, MOngolia, NEI, Indochina 1937-41 they were and are in RS a lot better. If you download and instal the RS Far East addon I think you will have more fun with them.

I am working on an upgrade to RSFE now. More platoons and unit oobs for the Japanese, Dutch East Indies, Manchukuo, KMT, PLA, USSR, French Indochina, Thailand, USA and UK and will be adding in North and Central Chinese Puppet forces. The oobs for RSFE will go back to 1937 for Japanese, Manchukuo, KMT and communist Chinese, 1938 for the Russians and Mongols.

Will have more aircraft for all of these that had them and will have Railroad movement too, Armoured Trains and other rail unit types.

There will be some scenarios for these particularly ones for the Dutch East Indies campaign in 1942, Khalkhin Gol 1939, Chengkufeng 1938 and some from 1937-41 China.

That's very interesting, Asiaticus. :)

But it sounds like this mod is a work in progress. ('I am working on...will be adding...will have...there will be...) I think I'm gonna hold off a bit till it looks as if things are completed.

But I can't wait till things are done! I've always wanted to see combat in the RS game with these new types of units. The excellent Milton-Bradley game 'Axis and Allies' has a 'World at War' extra that I found in a hobby store that allows players to do battle with the continental Chinese Army - good fun! (this was for the board game, not the PC)

Oh well, I'm rambling. Get it done, my friend! :cheeky:
