I hope everyone is having a good time, meeting new gamers, and hopefully finding new opponents to play even after the tournament is over.

The result spreadsheet is attached. Please make sure you play the side you are assigned to play.

The next scenario is " A Rude Surprise for Rommel" 15 turns.

This round should be finished by Sept 6th. Please get going as soon as possible so we can iron out any problems we may have in the begining.

Have fun, and remember to report into this thread when you begun.

Cheers,
Ray

Here are the third round matchups. Allies are on the left, just like in previous rounds.

Grayhound vs Jesdazone
Spartan vs Michammer
Abitis vs Gnrl Confusion
Ensayne vs John Given
Full Monty vs Paulinski

Abatis

It's a pretty tight tourney so far. I'm definitely enjoying it.

And now General Confusion, at last we shall meet on the virtual field of battle...please don't hurt me! I bruise like a peach! :cheeky:

Good hunting!

I'm suggesting a name change for this scenario. Maybe "One Helluva Great Day for Rommel" or "A Surprise for Rommel, It's a Sweater!" Maybe I'm overreacting (I am the Germans), but scenarios that start out with "rude surprise" make me kinda nervous; and nervous makes me run.

Emailed to your "alternate" address Abatis, the only one I saw.

Good luck,
Dave

Yay - I get to be Germans again...my old standard.

I'll be playing this scenario blind, though. I wonder if Ensayne has played it before? Hmmm.

I can't wait to start! :cheeky:

Dave,

Received your turn, will get it back to you this afternoon.

I thought the "rude surprise" was this greased whoopy cushion that my SAS commandos have orders to place in Rommel's seat on his Stork for 500 objective points!? They are also armed with water squirting flowers, and handshake shockers, as well as a few dribbling pint glasses and some plastic puke. We're gonna get ol Erwin good!

We are officially under way, but I think we got a little too complicated for these inexperienced troops. We instructed a couple of units to feint to the southeast. Anyone got smelling salts?

They did OK on the direction, though.

Ensayne and I are up to turn 9 - we have some serious tank battles going on now. I seem to be getting the worst of it;

I'm fighting tough, well-armed, Grant tanks :dead:

The Americans have so many places to hide :devious:

I'm now racing against the clock :OHNO:

And like George Bush, I have no apparent exit strategy :whist:

This is getting down to the wire!

Are there any German players doing better than I am? I'm staring major defeat in the face.

Spartan and I are only on turn 3, and we have only exchanged a few shots. I have lost 2 PzIIs and he has lost a Stuart. However, I can see his Grants and I am preparing for the upcoming armour battle.

Bottom of the 8th (Abatis [allies] turn). I have 104 points. Hold the two middle objectives, but suspect not for long. So take away those two and we're pretty much in the same spot, John.

So far I've killed a bunch of clowns in a mini cooper and have severly shelled a major handshake buzzer factory. Silly bastards.

Ensayne and I have finished round three - it's a major victory for Ensayne! Congrats my good man. :toast:

BTW, I've already reported it on the ladder. :)

What a hard-fought game! Ensayne just would not quit - so eventually, my forces did, heh. :dead:

The outcome was never in doubt, for our men sallied forth, not only with Sally, but with spirits emboldened by the certain knowledge that we were doing Full Monty's work. In preparation, we sacrificed a total of 16 goats (one for each turn and one to grow on). Sorry about the cans, but fresh goat is real hard to come by in this desert.

John Given fought a courageous and skillful battle, but his supply of goats (not to mention Rommel) came in too late to turn the tide.

Thanks for a great game, John and good sailing in the rest of the tourney!

Turn 5 - and I should have prepared better for the armoured duel. Loat 3 loaded trucks to his artillery as well.

Bottom of the 12th, bases loaded. I've squeaked out 157 points from Abatis (allies) who's up. Rommel arrived in the 10th, but it was Bob Rommel, no relation, no help.

Exits are lit. So are my men.

Congrats to Abatis. I made it all the way to 202 on my last turn, but threw caution to the wind to get that far and he took me back down to a final of 161 stinking points for a major. I've got to go lie down now. I challenge any Axis player to beat that score. There are a few things I could have done differently in retrospect, but I'm not sure the results would have been different. Hard one. Good opponent.

Damn clowns.

Final:
Abatis [allies]: Major Victory
General Confusion [axis]: Major defeat 161 points

Myself and Paulinski are having serious problems getting the game started. I receive his file, watch the battle replay, move such units as I can and end the turn. But when Paul gets the turn back he can't do anything with it! It seems to make no difference whether I save the game prior to ending the turn, even if I create a new savegame! Very frustrating.

I don't think I could have done much better myself. I really think the German player would be lucky to get a draw here -it's a bad situation for the Afrika Korps boys.

Good try Confusion -and still I can't get the ambush of that company of Stuarts(who were lying in ambush themselves) out of my head...to lose an entire company in one fell swoop...and not to really have it have any impact -is indicative of the flavor of this scenario. Allied numbers are big enough to absorb a loss like that, and not really have to change plans. Or so it seemed!

Unless it's a version issue (Ray knows what to do about that), it sounds to me like a corruption of some kind. Maybe try starting again, but have the other player do the initial setup.

To troubleshoot: can either of you play the scenario as a non-pbem game, especially Paulinski? If it bombs for one of you then have the other player send you the scenario files to swap out. Do you both have the same version of WF?

Dumb troubleshooting that I've done: Did Paulinski accidently put the file in his EF folder? Did Paulinski use the right password?

Doubt this is it, but have either of you installed anything unusual on your computers recently and are you zipping the file you email?

I have just sent turn 13 to Spartan in our game. Unfortunately, my Axis forces are going to suffer a major defeat. Rommel has arrived, but it is going to take until the final turn for him and his units to reach the current battle area.

Myself and Michammer have finished! A very difficult scenario for the Germans, lots of hiding places for the Allies. Also a bit of luck taking out some of his key units with some lucky artillary fire the first few turns.

I played Allies, Michammer Germans. Allied Major win -96 points.

Thanks for the game Andy, well played and good luck in the next round.

I guess I should of mentioned this before. But, if anyone has not heard from their opponent for 4 days, then you need to post an alert here or contact me if they haven't replyed to a contact email from yourself.

It is important to at least let your opponent know what the status is, especially for delays.

A good, enjoyable game. Spartan's artillery killed 3 infantry pltns and both by 50mm AT pltns during turns 2 and 3.

His Grants were very effective at keeping my armour at bay; they tended to disrupt or destroy my units before I could get into range to do him any damage.

I have PM'ed Jezdazone and Paulinski. I expect to hear from them shortly, and then we can move on. I am trying my best to keep things running smooth, but it's not easy when people don't communicate. It's always best to let me or your opponent know what the status is, if there is any delays whatso ever. There are quite a few folks involved here...not just the guy you are playing.

I don't want to be a hardliner and start handing out major losses because someone is behind. This is supposed to be fun, but it's not a lot of fun when we have to deal with lack of communication from players.

Hopefully we can move forward soon.

Cheers,
Ray

Edited due to cranial vapour lock.

OK...we are almost set to go. Could everyone please make sure the scenario "First Clash at Carpiquet" works for them. If it doesn't, please let me know. Otherwise just wait, and if no-one has a problem we will use that one for the next round. It should work fine.

Everyone please check A.S.A.P.

works fine from this end but darn i would kill for a few panthers versus a couple of pre ww2 french tanks lol

btw i just sent my final turn to my opponent good luck to all, i think in the future instead of causing grief to the moderator instead get a commitment from the players in the ladder as to how often they would send a turn and if and when they fail to abide by their commitment they are docked points from the scenario results who know lets just call it the pressure of command HUH :hush:
