View Full Version : Is this the end?

Not a peep out of Scott for a few weeks now. Is anyone still testing?, I think maybe not!

I’m afraid I’ve been concentrating on a couple of other projects and let POA2 slip onto the back burner. I hope this is not the end of the road for the simulations support and I truly don’t want to be the one that puts out the light and shuts the door on the way out from the forum!

Maybe it's just a summer vacation away from work (I vaugely remember what a vacation is...)?

Last I heard Scott was working on the manual.

I was wondering if any one was even checking this forum. I'm worried it will eventually get closed dut lack of activity. This is the only place to communicate about POA2.

I am still playing it. I played WinSPMBT for a few weeks, but eventually came back to POA2. I am hoping Scott has been quietly updating the program to iron out the last issues.

There has been 100 views since I posted this thread so there must still be some interest in the simulation

There is certainly enough, well, disappointment it isn't the game that it should be. I must admit that I'm fiercely intrigued though not as yet willing to send any money on it.

I think its the name 4 to 6 people checking the forum every few hours to see if any life is left.

From now on, how about emailing Scott if you have questions about the status of POA2? No need to get depressed :)

From Scott Hamilton, 8-2-05:

Hi Nick,

Sure, I’ve already told the main playtesters that we’re still working on it full time. Jeff is coding things to “smooth out” some of the rough edges, and I’ve been both coding and working on the manual (which is now over 240 pages and I still have a ways to go).

We had a couple of bug reports come in last week, which we’ve fixed, and are looking into a few other issues that surfaced while Jeff and I were playing.

Also, please tell them when they have questions to just email me and ask! ;-)

This is still one thing that annoys me...why should all of us have to email Scott. If he just dropped a single line in the forum we'ld all know. Seems like it would save time for everyone. The same issue with bug reporting, on the forum we all see the problem and the resolusion. By email, we all have write emails and Scott has to reply to them all with a lot of duplication. It makes little sense to communicate to customers this way. This is what drives us to come here and speculate.

We all complained about this way back when I first starting with this game. Scott refused to come, and still does. I cannot for the life of me understand why not. I play a lot of Matrix's games and those developers are on all the time. Look at Flashpoint Germany, that game came out in much the same state the POA2 came out. 4 patches later after listening and talking to the players of the game and it is a much better game. 1 more patch and I think it will be nailed. Why Scott will not come here is beyond me. The only reason I heard was he was complaining it would eat up to much of his time, and emails won't?

Oh well, and we wonder why the game is finished yet. How long has it been out?

FWIW Scott has been handling the Shipping for HPS as well as his normal routines for the last 2 months, and Joe Miranda has had to depart the company for a while, so that add's more to Scott's plate. He's not just a programmer...

He's not just a programmer...
I don’t want to pick an argument especially with one of my favourite scenario designers :) but quite a few gamers, myself included have spent numerous hours beta testing POA2 for Scott. We know he is not just a programmer and if his limited time as you say has been spread too thinly, an email to his testers would have a least put us in the picture.

If you read back on the many threads, as soon as a new beta update was posted Scott let us know, he also brought us up to date with the simulations progress which in turn we passed on to the non-testers. I’ve not heard from Scott for over six weeks now and as far as I am aware neither have the other testers.

Anyway enough said, judging from nick Bell’s comments Scott is still working full time on the project so we’ll likely see some action in the not to distant future.

I've known Scott for about 12 years and have had this discussion (about him not involving himself publicly on the internet) on several occasions. Back in the 90's he was on Compuserve, and I believe the negative crap, coupled with the extraordinary amount of time he spent explaining and defending himself probably soured him on it. Instead he relies on people like Rich and myself (and others) who are in contact with him on a regular basis to step in on an add needed basis.

It may not be the answer you want, but the bottom line is you are never going to see Scott on this or any board. But he does read (and eventually answer)his emails and even picks up the phone if you call late afternoon Pacific Time. That's how I got involved with HPS. I bugged Scott so much about "problems" in Tigers on the Prowl he eventually brought me into the process - much to his dismay

Yep, I talk to him on the phone from time to time and he is a good guy.

I second that. He always answers my e-mails and calls. He and his wife even go out of their way to meet us when we visit the Bay area,
