Since I know a few of you are 'tech' guys I'm interested to get your thoughts on this.

First, my appropriate system specs

AMD 3200XP
1024 mb 3200 DDR Ram
Leadtek Nvidia 6600GT Graphics

Until I acquired BF2 I'd been happily running everyhing using the standard 66.93 drivers. However, on installing BF2 I was informed I should install the drivers on the disk (77.30 iirc). So I dutifully installed said drivers and quickly found that it messed with my other 'shooters', especially HL2 which suddenly got wide bands of lighter shades whenever water textures were demanded and upon reloading saved games rendered the health and ammo stats unreadable. 'Painkiller' just 'locked up' and crashed the system! I tried using 'Driver Cleaner' and re-installing the drivers, I tried downloading later Nvidia drivers, 'modded' drivers, anything I could find, even the ones from Leadtek. In the end I downloaded the 66.93 Omega drivers and installed them with the 'Performance' option and since then everything seems okay, apart from BF2 which still protests. Any ideas guys?

Hmmm....seems strange. the 77.30 work fine for me......

I doubt it would be, but are your GPU temperatures normal? You can find out by right clicking on the desktop > settings > advanced and somewhere in there a tab should come out with a temperature tab within it...my 6800 GT runs at temps upwards of 65 degrees C.

Hey it's Tinjaw using John's account:
Unless the nVidia drivers are only a few weeks old it is always best to run the latest drivers. If it is having problems right away, it isn't heat. Heat is only a problem if it is crashing after 20 minutes of play. You may also want to get the latest drivers for your sound card/chip and your motherboard.

I did have a check on the temperature a few days ago, and that appeared to be well within acceptable limits.

I'll have a check on the mobo and s/card drivers although I'm pretty sure I updated the s/card recently.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :)
