View Full Version : Yay! Got my CD-key back!
Did a system restore to a week or two ago, which restored my system registry that included an entry that had the CD-key...so I recovered it from there.
If anyone lost the manual, and still has the registry entry it is located in -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Electronic Arts > EA GAMES > Battlefield 2 > ergc
(type regedit in run to get to the registry)

Be curious to see if you notice any changes since you've been gone.
Finding good medics is nearly impossible these days.

I think there was a huge flux of medics when the game started because everyone wanted the badges. Now, teamwork is for sissies, there are other badges to be had!

Really? The players must really have changed.....back in the demo and the first couple days of the retail version they were all over. It rocked!
But I guess this just leaves more room for medics like me :D
EDIT: Curt! Get in xfire!!! :D We have all 4 of us online (although I don't know if we can all play).

Side note - Last night I was part of a Blackhawk crew in the Mushtaar City map, and we didn't die once! We had a med, and Engineer, a support guy, even an AT guy takilng potshots at enemy army and trucks. We were THE force to be reckoned with!

That reminds me, it is frustrating as hell seemingly being the only soldier on the battlefield that realizes how easy it is to knock down a helo. It is often possible to sit in a HUMVEE and use the MG to knock down a Blackhawk (assuming the thing sticks around long enough). Sadly, most guys are so engrossed with either running away screaming or else bent on some other worthless mission plan - that they forget to think in 3 dimensions in their defense plans.

Technically, there is only 2 guys on X-fire right now. Overseer is playing poker *again*. LOL

Listen. I don't need this kind of abuse. :p
Oh yeah related to the helicopter thing. I had some fun earlier, I was stuck in a little alcove as a blackhawk helicopter was trying to cap the flag right by me, so I pulled out a grenade and tossed it right into the back, took out the two guys riding in the back of the helicopter, but before I could run up to C4 it the rest of the way back to the ethereal plane, a guy came up behind me and shot me.
Two morals to this story: One, don't hover right off the ground, and two, watch behind you.
Listen. I don't need this kind of abuse. :p
Yeah, but you deserve it :D
I've said it before and I'll say it again - "Argh... my kingdom for a decent gunner in my chopper."
I did actually find a good one the other night while flying the blackhawk. He seemed surprised to find a pilot that understood the value of a steady, stable gunnery platform. I was just as surprised to find someone who could shoot the mini-gun worth a damn. Needless to say, we cleaned up shop as long as the USMC maintained air supremacy.

Right. And how many times have you been manning the guns and watch the pilot drive STRAIGHT at the target? Uhhh...FYI pilot my gun points sideways, not forward!
Time to jump out!

Yep... or they fly by the target at 300mph and go into some kind of tortuous, spinning pattern - barely dodging trees and buildings - and expect you to actually be able to hit something.

The same can be said of vehicles. That is why I sometimes prefer having my own HUMVEE rather than trusting a driver to know what to do. The MG's on vehicles can't hit anything while the vehicle is bouncing over bushes or slamming into buildings. YOu have to take your rig somewhere in a standoff position and then stop. Then targeting becomes easily 3 or 4 times as effective. You'd think that was some sort of secret. ;)

I tend to try, when I think it won't get myself and the gunner killed to stop at points, but a big problem I have with random gunners in my tank or humvee is that I don't know whether or not the guy is randomly shooting off into the air or actually shooting at an enemy, and then of course even if I decide he might be shooting at the enemy, I don't know where the enemy is to actually know how to help.
I've found the most effective thing in the game is to man your own humvee (or equivalent) because then you drive right where you want to be, press F2 to hop up top and go at it. When you're done, press F1 and drive off.

You know, there is always something new that people are doing. Last night I noticed that some MG gunners on tanks WERE firing in random directions for no apparent reason. Almost as if they thought they were laying down suppressive fire or something. I definitely wouldn't want that guy as my gunner LOL. Oh, and we definitely need to get some voice comms going...so we can coordinate things like this. At one point Curt was beeping his horn to try to tell me there were enemy troops about. :D
One of the coolest things I've seen was an enemy (unfortunately) run a tank up the middle of a street with a squad on each side clearing a path for it by sweeping alley's, nooks, and so forth. He apparently had a mechanic around, as well as some AT support because it took about 3 of our tanks and numerous assaults to knock him down. By that time they pushed our perimeter well back into Karkand City.

Roger on the voicecomms! I spent about 10 seconds yelling at my monitor for you to orient straight ahed! LOL! We can just use battlecom as a filter for our searches when finding a server, or we can get a custom server going, whatever.
Anyway, I think that we have enough ppl to put out skills together and creat a mobile powerhouse, either with a tank or a chopper!
Like I said, I'll be on for a few hours tonight starting around 6pm Central or so. Get your flak vest ready!

Yeah, voice comm would really help. Does it work properly for everyone else? Mine had problems before I reinstalled, but I haven't tried it with the new install. I don't think I have a mic here (I'm at a different house than normal), so I may just have to be a listener....

Wow...cool stuff. I have noticed some clans have specialized tactics and they usually rack up the points. Last night I think there was a clan in the blackhawk in Mashtuur City, and they scored near 1-2-3 overall on the scoring list. Voice comm will help to coordinate it though.

Hopefully your reinstalling fixed the problem you had with it. I've been able to communicate with Heat, not sure if I've tried it with Curt, but it's worked with a number of other people so it's definitely something with your end Beavs. :p
At some point if we can, we should give the tank thing a try. Figure Heat driving the tank, maybe Curt in turret (so he can be sniper bait :D ) and at least Beavs and I on the sides, I might have a couple of other people playing today too so that could add to it.
Something similiar that I've found works fairly well when I get the opportunity is to follow the tank in a humvee or equivalent (anything but that lame dune buggy) and whenever the tank stops, pop up into the turret to cover the sides and rear of the tank from any spec ops guys running up.

If we do this, the tank driver should be an engineer. The squad leader should probably be running next to the tank so that there are no spawn issues. I think we could go far! :)

I think the engineer should be on the outside, so it can repair the tank without the driver having to get out. Keeping the SL alive should be paramount though.

Negative, in combat that guy would just get run over if trying to repair the tank...plus the shotgun is useless in all but the closest of encounters. I'd much rather have him in the tank...then repair on the fly or possibly jump out when parked in a safe area.

Problem is, it only quits working sometimes when I join games. The game manually sets the voice comm to disabled and lowers all of the volumes...but when not actually in a game I can get it however I want....and I have used Teamspeak before so I know its a problem with BF2 :(.

Ok. You're the tank driver, I won't tell you how to run your show :D.
I think I'll go pick up a mic today...so if the game will let me, I should be able to talk.

An idea I was mulling over while doing the dishes just now :(: What if the guy in the turret (whoever it ends up being) is the engineer? I guess I would say I just worry about losing the firepower of the tank while it's being repaired. As long as the engineer sticks to the side and the driver knows he's out there, he should be fine. This lets us keep the driver in the vehicle, and lets the engineer use a real gun rather than the shotgun. Also, I'd say however it works out, the other person in the tank should be a medic. That way the two guys on the outside can always run within its radius for a pick-me-up.

That is a pretty good idea - having the engineer on top. If we have a few guys on the outside looking about, I don't think the loss of temporary firepower would be that bad.
Should the driver of the tank be a medic? He should probably stay in the tank as long as possible, then you have that nice healing radius. Problem with that is you probably need another medic on the outside to revive people when they go down. I think a support on the outside would be nice too...nothing worse than running out of ammo.

Sounds like a good idea. Additionally, if the tank is going to set up overwatch in an area, the Engineer can hop out and quickly lay some mines to block rear avenues of approach or somesuch.
But, don’t forget about me! I’m kinda stuck on an older pc at the moment, but I can still play.
Also, Overseer, can I get access to revamp the 5ACG site?
Oh, and, how many folks can be in a squad… I always forget to check. Is it 6? Or just 5? Cheers
