View Full Version : War In The West Tourney SIGNUP SHEET

The War in the West tourney is finally here!

Please drop a quick post here if you want to be involved! This is a knockout tourney format, so each player is on his own; no teams!

Tournament Format

Each player will have to play both sides in a given scenario, but against different opponents. Points achieved will be totalled, and the highest values will allow players to advance to the next level of the tournament. The amount of players advancing will be dependent on how many players join the tourney.

The final round will consist of the top three players each playing both sides against a different opponent, and the total scores will stand for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. There are no 'eliminations' in the final round; rather the players are now competing for final rankings.

Scoring

Players will earn ladder points as they would normally for the scenario in play. Additional points will be granted based on the tourney round achieved. For example, getting knocked out in the first round will only grant a small number of extra points, while each successive round will grant a larger number of points.

As the number of rounds required cannot be determined until the amount of players in the tourney is known, bonus points awarded will not be decided until the signup phase is completed.

Points awarded for finishing in the top three will also be disclosed at that time.

Scenarios

In no particular order, we will be playing:

Two Weeks in Normandy

Bastogne 44

Sealion 2.1

MarketGarden 44

These scenarios will be posted in a thread once the signup phase is completed to ensure we all are using identical versions.

Let the mayhem begin!

We'll be starting (roughly) a week from now. Turns will be at a relaxed pace. There's no point in saying 'one every day' because with this many people involved, we pretty much just have to go at the flow of the pack. Keep in mind, these scenarios are not very large, so turns should not be two hour, intense affairs. I imagine they'll go by fairly quickly. Also, based on the format alone, most players will only have to go through 1 or 2 scenarios. Round 3 will reduce the pack to only 3 players, so very few will see 3 or 4 rounds.

Jump in, Sturlungur!

I hear you there. I've been waffling on not playing myself, the way I've been pressed for time lately! (I've got three little ones defying the laws of 'conservation of energy' ) But I'm sure I'll end up in the thing regardless - it's painful to imagine sitting out!

I'd like to join in. I'll be out of the country from 8/19-8/28, so that may limit my eligibility.

If you can play reasonably fast before and after your trip, it wouldn't even be noticed. If you think you can manage it, jump in!

Actually, since this is not a team format, there are no substitutions. It's a knockout tourney. Last three standing battle it out for rank (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

Monday, August 4th is the start day!

Once I login to get the ball rolling, I'll post a message about no more entries. I've just fired off a quick email to Brett to get the latest scenario and briefing, and I'll post it the second it arrives!

DL the version I post even if you have a recent veriosn. It's important that we all be on the same page!

Chuck?

The latest version of Two Weeks in Normandy.

Just my luck. I leave this weekend, and I'll be gone for 3 weeks. Stupid job, always interfering with my TOAW time. There should be a law against this. Strike my name off the list

Will you post a tournament page? And...will it be posted before the start date of the tourney?:p

Mantis
31 Jul 03, 16:45
I, myself, don't know how to do that yet, but I have mentioned it to Brian a few weeks ago. I'm still not quite settled back into a normal routine up here, and one of us has to go out and get a new job when life returns to normal...

But a tourney page has been on my mind as well for quite someitme, so hopefully we'll be able to get something going asap!

(I've picked out the picture for it quite some time ago... :) )

JAMiAM
31 Jul 03, 16:49
LoL...alright Dubya Jr...the buck stops here...no, wait...it's over there. Ah, there it is...rolling under the desk.:p

Now, if we can just pry Brian out of the produce section long enough to work his html magic...

Have you decided the order we're going to play the scenarios in?

Or will we be doing that chronologically (eg Sealion, 2Win, Market-Garden)?

Sergeant-Major
31 Jul 03, 19:49
Sorry, Mantis,

Out of the country from 4th to 15th of august. If this makes a big difference, can you take me from the list, please?
Else I could fight against any other who is away the same period? We'll just fight a bit faster if possible.

Mantis

Nope, there's still time; you're in!

Quick update!

I have to go into town tomorrow until around dinner time, so I'm going to try to get all the pairings worked up today. I'm hoping to get the revised version of 2WiN today, and I'll post it the second it comes through.

*** IMPORTANT!! ***

I have several people singing up through emails, etc... If you notice the pairings, and you aren't on the lists, let me know ASAP! I don't know how long I can accept late entries, but if there's enough unmatched opponents, and it's still early enough, I'll fit you in!

There were simply too many people that have vacations, are coming or going, or that had friends email me to tell me they had no computer access, but would by tourney time, etc. So if this is the case, and you're not listed when I post the matchings, be sure to get in touch with me soonest!

Mantis,
I'm one of those guys who emailed you for sign-up since I was in South Africa on an exercise and couldn't post to the forum. I know, excuses, excuses . . . Anyway, hope it's not to late too get in on the mayhem. Oh yeah, Cyrus would like in on the action if it's still possible as well.

Gents!

Are any of you not registered on the ladder? If you're not, you have until the end of round one to join. (Sooner the better, though!) Keep in mind that being a registered user on the forums is not the same thing as being registered for the TOAW ladder! You must also register here (http://www.warfarehq.com/frm_join.shtml) to be part of our TOAW ladder system!

Mantis

Keep in mind, gents, that AAR points are also awarded for these games.

It would also be nice to see a bunch of you take a few minutes, and get a good thread going on this scenario in the TOAW Scenario Notes (http://www.warfarehq.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=28) forum. The more individual input we have per scenario, the more valuable the thread is as a resource. Not mandatory, however; only participate if you have both the time and inclination!
