need idiot's guide to 1.06 patch

hi all. was here a little over a week ago asking for help with my TOAW EE with windows XP, and found out pretty quickly i needed ACOW with the 1.06 patch. i have tried to find the patch and to download/open/make it work, and i'm having some problems.

i would REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me the best place to go and get it and give me some idiot-proof instructions on how to get it, open it, and install it on a machine with XP.

Is TOAW EE 'Elite Edition'? There is a TOAW I (pre-1955) Elite Edition and a TOAW II (post-1955) Elite Edition. Best to go to http://www.talonsoft.com/patches/index.html to get the latest for whichever you have.

But the 1.06 you've seen/heard referred to is for TOAW- A Century of Warfare only, representing the latest in the TOAW system- and this patch won't work with ANY earlier incarnations of the system. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I hope this is helpful.

Actually rereading post # 1 here, if you actually HAVE ACOW already installed and tested (i.e. you can run and play it) go to http://www.warfarehq.com/TOAW/toaw_section_hq.shtml and click on the "ACOW 1.06 full" on the left hand side.

Download it to your ACOW main directory- usually C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\TOAW-CW or similar- and then double click on the downloaded file (CoW106full.exe) to extract the necessary files. When you start ACOW after this you should see the correct version # (1.06) in the Help->About... menu.

i bought TOAW EE (yes, it is 'elite edition') used, got totally hooked, but found it wasnt happy with windows XP. i ordered CoW online, and now that i have the patch i can start really learning how to play this game!
